Palio Flag

Sunday’s R6 at SAR will be the 2nd start for Stonestreet’s Palio Flag. By Curlin out of an AP Indy mare, she was a first time out winner at KEE last month.

Her name is derived from Palio di Sienna, the most famous horse race in Italy. Here’s a clip of the 2018 running:

Next time there are any protests about American tracks being unsafe, they should bring up this clip for comparison to what it could be like.

There's an interesting doc on Netflix about this race that I saw a few years ago. The race itself isn't even the half of it; the bribery and corruption is built right in and even a consideration for gambling interests.

There are three races, more than any others, I'd love to call: The Little Brown Jug, the Cox Plate and the Palio.
