Just for "Entertainment" reasons they need to show what the stewards are looking at. I really had no interest in the outcome but just to have the race on it would have been nice to be privy to the plot.

If that didn't cost a placing, and for the win no less, I don't know what ever could.

Del Mar R6, 7-22.

Agree 100%. Shocking that horse stayed up. (wouldn't have affected me either way)

Finger Lakes R8

BET THE 9 TO WIN AND A 9/7 EXB
2 OBJECTIONS AND HE STAYS
I THOUGHT HE WOULD COME DOWN ON BOTH, BUT WAS SURE OF THE ONE IN THE STRETCH

Welcome to the new stewards in SoCal. (Same as the old stewards)

No disrespect to the connections or to jockey Stevens, who was trying to get the horse to maintain a straight path, but Double Touch bore out badly, took away Bombard’s running path, and should have been taken down in the Wickerr. Simple really, and so plain to see in the head-on.

P.S. I didn’t wager on the race, so I’m not a disgruntled bettor.

Saratoga r5 non-DQ

What did Irad have to do there to be taken down with BRIMSTONE??

Were the stewards simply reluctant to place 3rd, since the came up the rail to get 2nd??

Seems like a no-brainer if it had held , but because it was the judges act like horse and/or rider didn't 'hold them all off' with an all-out herd into the ?

Seems anymore that the horse on the lead just happens to drift toward the path of the second place horse, the only time the lead horse runs a straight line is when it is easily clear.

Yup, its silly, and dangerous what they allow. I dont get it, maintain a straight course or get days, would clean this up, doesnt even have to be contact in my book.

It has to be the 'horse' right?

I mean, that's some really skillful stuff we are talking...

where a guy is demonstrably whipping his horse away from a rival, while at the same time herding into the rival/path ??

That's some Magic Johnson or Pistol Pete or Ty Cobb type of skillful mastery if you're saying it's not the horse...

Is there anyone better than Irad Ortiz when it comes to 'holding them all off' in deep stretch?

We're crying in the baseball thread about 'bunting' being a lost art. These guys are masters of their craft, right in front of our eyes.

Irad is a master at that.

No better example than today's inquiry for SAR R5 --

Irad, after setting the pace to the top of the stretch, realizes he is about to be challenged by his brother's horse Top Of The Page. Irad goes to the whip right handed, but (IMO) guides Brimstone several paths out - and magically straightens out at the last possible instant before making contact with Jose's horse.

Jose doesn't check or pull up. But does quit asking for an instant. Fyi, I love the chart caller's description of the incident: "initiating momentum sapping contact"

Immediately after that, Irad starts guiding Brimstone inward -- towards David Cohen's horse Imperatore.

After watching the head on replay several times - I'm absolutely convinced if the stretch had been longer - Irad would have not only herded Jose's horse - he would have herded David Cohen's horse too.

Fast forward to R6 --

John Velazquez aboard Alberobello, after setting the pace to the top of the stretch, realizes he is about to be challenged by Land Mine.

But instead of tipping several paths out with intent to herd - Velazquez simply gives Alberobello her cue. As soon as that happens both horse and rider accelerate away - with Velazquez riding a nearly perfect straight line to the wire.

The difference in styles is night and day.
