You're right, Chris. The was 3/1 when they entered the gate. He got a bad start and his odds went to 9/2. That's a 50% increase. In a 14-horse field.
I wonder what would have happened if he had gotten a good start. His odds probably would have dropped to 5/2 or 2/1.
