As they hit the club turn he said "after that, you're on you're own"...Classic.
I was present for the '84 Bernard Baruch. If I can find it, I'll dig up the program and post the BB page....
I agree Cassidy was good. As good as they came. Toward the end of his career with NYRA though, he seemed bored. His calls lacked the enthusiasm we had heard throughout. I guess he was ready to move on...I happens.
And the show hosted by Harvey Pack to which you refer was called "Inside Racing"...A weekly recap of all the biggest graded races from around the country.
I don't know if it is general knowledge or not but Bob Weems was color blind. I thought he was a very good race caller and I spent a lot of time at MTH back then and enjoyed his calls at MTH.

Hopefully video came thru, seems like you might have had to click on the youtube link to see it. Yes, the "echo" brings back a lot of great times for many.

Yeah, it seems like that the originator of the video required that to view it. No big deal though.

It seems that the subject matter in this thread has drifted far, far, away from the original discussion that the Tampa Bay annoucer was not that good.

The subj title is there can't be a worse announcer...so, that leaves it open to discuss other announcers who might be actually worse.

Can anyone catch a break? The and both had the same color silks and he was about to say Any Given Monday when Dixie Gone Wild rushed into the picture from nowhere. Caught the announcer off guard, and good for him to check his program then to call the wrong horse. Again, same color silks.

I'd rather hear Pee Wee Herman call a race than Grunder. His nerve-racking race-calling antics are awful and he only seems to get worse with time.

Howard Oil ..Who often imitated Bob "The Bullet" Meyer of Yonkers. In fact I used to see Oil in the grandstand of Yonkers douing calls of races before they were contested based on his handicapping of the upcoming race.
It was weird. People would gather around to listen to Oil. When he finished his call, those that did not like his prediction booed and cursed. Those that agreed wit Oil's "result" cheered.
New Yorkers are certainly a strange lot
