Who has Derby Fever?

The new year has just started, and I'm already getting Derby fever -- well, least Santa Anita Derby fever! There are some really promising and spectacular looking 3-year-olds on the grounds at Santa Anita, and in training at Hollywood Park, right now.

Some of the ones I will be watching:

The Pamplemousse (photo here)

Square Eddie (video here)

I'd love to hear anyone else's picks....

Mary,

Your blog is a thing of beauty. I shall visit frequently.

As for the California 3yo division ... I hope they're better than what ran in the Hollywood Futurity. The Beyer came back 86 for the race. Slowest Futurity in a long, long time.

Regards,

JeremyJet

Let's see.

I have an urge to look at the PPs of promising 3YOs and I'm already dreaming of making a major score in one of the Triple Crown races because of all the unsopisticated money in the pools.

I'd say YES. I have Derby fever.

There wasnt too much unsophisticated money in the derby last year, especially the win pool. But Im sure you had BB! This may be an interesting year I would think the derby favorite will go off somewhere around 5-1. I dont think the favorite will come from California either.

Mary,

I DO I DO!!!!

I already see Derby Fever equated in terms of numbers by our astute handicappers...but for me, it's all about the horses, the excitment, the chance to see history made, the trainers, jocks and all the wonderful stories that surround our great sport at that time of the year...the fun of picking your favorites to watch and root for, to hope for a Triple Crown Champion, pray they all stay sound and happy...

I got da fever and I'll be picking up on my favorites now...

All I have right now is Cabin Fever but I expect to catch Derby Fever shortly. It will take an exciting performance to give it to me, however.

LOLOLOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I DON'T I DON'T I DON'T.

All that's lighting up my board right now? Whose in tomorrow at Gulfstream?

But I DO care because they're horses. And who knows, one may win by daylight and be really, really, special. Its still early, very early.

Good call. At this point, I wouldn't count anyone out! It's pretty fun speculating, tho.

Nice colt, but I don't think he'll go well beyond 9 furlongs.

It's a little early, but hope to nail the winner down again. Just see which one of these guys can go 1 1/4.....Get a better idea after the big preps. It's soon. And who knows, the best one might have not even been on the tarck yet...

My list will be out sometime in early February....Just to early to get it going now. Leave that up to the others.

steve Haskins Derby Trail

Ok, I bookmarked the first , I believe, of Steve Haskins' Derby Trail of monday Jan. 5 from the Bloodhorse. He seems to think that a couple of 1 1/8 races on Thursday at gulfstream might shake out a couple of horses to watch and then goes on to mention others . I'm not onto anyone yet, still keeping my eyes and ears open. http://racing.bloodhorse.com/article/48642.htm

Too early for me.

Funny how things work out but the best Derby hit I has was Unbridled and I jumped on him 5 minutes to post.
