It's about 25 miles and about 35 years from Seattle...but I jest. On a clear day when the horses head into the first turn with Mt Rainier in the background is probably the most beautiful sight in all of racing.

I shed no tears for the cities.
People get what they deserve.
Any one who voted for idiots like DiBlasio deserve the shit hoe they now live in.

No tears, grow a set and take your city back.
On your own - no help from me or my taxes.
You own the shit hole you live in, not me.

Has Seatle built any public housing? Back in the day, this is what cities did.
I had mentioned in an earlier thread on this subject that Philadelphia has an inventory of abandoned houses that they gave to some of the homeless.
I guess Seatlle's "problem" is that they don't have any abandoned neighborhoods, yet.

Many great memories with my Father at Longacres. Started going there with him on Saturdays when I was 10.

Of course they have. They have also passed city ordinances to limit vacation rentals (AirBNB, etc.) in order to make more housing available. The thing is Redboard, the so-called leaders in Seattle will tell you that the homeless crisis is an affordable housing issue. That is nothing but a bunch of BS! The reality is that if housing were $5/month or even FREE, but had rules attached to it, the homeless who we are talking about would take a hard pass. Rules don't appeal to some.

And you're right, Seattle does not have abandoned neighborhoods. What they have are either nice neighborhoods, or soon-to-be nice neighborhoods that have encampments in nearby public spaces (parks). There they turn it into a toxic dump and depository for used heroin needles. The citizens of Seattle want to address the crisis and help the homeless, just not in their yards. It is a shit show.

I remember what Rudy G. did for New York City back in the day. Maybe Seattle needs a little of that. It will never happen though because Seattle will never elect a Republican mayor again, and the city council is too busy trying to tax Amazon into leaving.

What you are describing is...
The STAKEHOLDERS - i.e. the builders of country, states, cities...

ALIGNED AGAINST

The EVERYTHING-FOR-NOTHING - i.e. the people who have no interest in building anything.
AND

The NAIVE STAKEHOLDERS - i.e the people with good hearts who want to "do the right thing" towards people in need.

They are "naive" because they think that they get to keep what they've built. They don't understand that the E-F-Ns ultimately just become destroyers.

the homeless problem is a drug addiction and mental health problem ... they are throwing money away on the wrong solution, but that seems to be the dim way.

But when you look deeper, the homeless problem is really a symptom, no?

That seems like so long ago. I just shake my head when I see the day-to-day ridiculous actions taken by the city council. The city, and its sister city Portland, have become laughing stocks, and rightfully so.

I have more or less resigned myself to not posting on social media much any more, but this thread really struck a nerve. It is not just Seattle, though. This is a bad situation in many cities. What do to about it?
Hate to see your town go this way, kingfin. Reading your post as well as ultracapper's is a realization I have to acknowledge. Austin is only a step behind. Hard to watch.

Why Use Structured Problem Solving, it does not fit the liberal agenda.

Amen! Great post. Cuts to the core......

I have a crapload of experience dealing with the homeless.

Kingfin66 got it right
