Seems like an interesting read for those who want to start investigating horse race betting.
Looking at all those negative ROI’S, their interest may fade rapidly.
Instead of using incremental odds analysis, most often he is using impact values. For me a better analysis uses incremental odds, but IV’S do have some value.
“Impact value refers to the percentage of winners with a given characteristic divided by the percentage of starters having that characteristic.”

Ken has so many filters/factors/options available in his software and robot that you could look into anything you wanted to.
What Light fsils to understand is that this is a BOOK, not a handicapping tool.
The crap he calls a failure would never fit into a book. Ken supplied good data for the average player and Barry wrote a good narrative for using it. Of course the single factors don't show a profit. But some are promising and worth looking into. Most players are not using huge databases, but this work gives them a look at info not readily available.
I can guattentee that when this book came out, the guys at HTR were up late every night working on their spot plays and researching idea that came from it. I was.

From Pointdexter:
To conclude when you read books like these you are looking for handicapping tools to make your handicapping better. If you are looking for a miracle book that is going to make you a winner in this game, you are looking for the impossible.[/QUOTE]
All the betting books I have are exactly as Pointdexter states. None will make you a winner per se but sometimes just ONE or TWO observations/comments/recommendations by the author could have you charting a path that could make all the difference. I remember ANdy Beyer suggesting the main reason he won $50K was him honing in on two or three strategies that, once calculated, showed where he exceled. His ratings and trainer studies were two I remember. He used the word "specialization" or "specializing" (I am not chasing the page to be exact) as what woke him up in that he could not master all facets of the the game.
I have diverged!

There's not been one person in this entire thread that could name one thing they learned from this book.

What you fail to understand is that books are supposed to educate us, not regurgitate what we already know.

This thread is hilarious. I haven't been here in a long time. I used to have a different screen name. Anyway...I agree with Light. Books won't make you a better handicapper. You just have to look at hundreds of races, handicap over and over. It takes years to become a good handicapper. We all know that, right.
