"The Sting"
Who said these guys were stupid?
I don't know about you but I would love to have been a part of that action. Think of the rush. I would not necessarily want to do it for the money. Money is not that big a deal or I wouldn't be playing the horses. Hell, they only would have scored a million a piece if they cashed.
Just stop and think about what they did. They knocked off horse racing on it's biggest day. If this was a real sport--say, World Series or Basketball--or if they would knocked over Vegas on Super Bowl day, they would be on Peter Jennings every night. Channel 2 (LA) would send that little wimpy guy who busts restaurants each sweeps month to White Plains to cover the story.
Think about the planning. When did they ACTUALLY do this? Where they at work on Breeders Cup day? Was AutoTote closed? Did one of them go to the office that day? Imagine if you had done this and you saw Valponi rushing along the rail...your blood would be boiling. I think it's amazing.
Some people have called these guys dumb. Are you kidding me. Dumb they are not. I would love to have been a part of that for the total thrill of it. I would imagine there are a lot of us who would jump at that chance. Not to be thieves but to beat the system like that. WoW!
Now everyone is getting all sanctimonous about now and thinking they stole our money. They hurt our game. Well just remember two rule where money is involved:
A-Someone is stealing it.
B--Someone is trying to steal it.
I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!
