I can't pick my nose there, and I don't think it's the circuit. While Ellis Park is one of my top five favorite tracks (in terms of ROI), and Keeneland has the best venue in the States (IMHO), it's hard to love a track when you don't cash very often. I'm not entirely sure what the problem is, but like most players I do better at some venues and learn to avoid others (Fair Grounds, Northern California, Emerald Downs, etc.) But Kentucky Downs is a special kind of hell for me - with tempting races on paper that look like great investments, and results that leave me scratching my head.
Only one of the last five years has been profitable for me there, and that's when I churned out a measly $13 profit last year. It's not a track for me that can be played off the PPs alone....

LOL. Sorry for your misery, but I really enjoyed your post. KDX can be tough, I'll give you that, but when you're right it can be very rewarding. Even if I'm not prepared to play it I always enjoy watching.
From a horseman POV I would consider KDX one of the very best venues in the country.

This is a ridiculously small sample size.

Hard to get a larger one with 5 days of racing every year.

True.
Sometimes in this world there will never be enough data to make any conclusions.
One of the things that marks a smart gambker is he or she won't attempt to make conclusions in that situation snyway.

Not only are they racing Wednesday, but they are running
Sunday's whole card intact.
Please Mother nature be kind.
I handicap with pen and paper and the only thing I'll have to do is change the dates. Thank goodness I didn't throw everything away this morning when I found out.
I love this track because I love turf racing.
I started the year +$4,000 and am now +$16,000 lifetime at Kentucky Downs I state bragging.
I am minus $150 lifetime at Belmont I state neutrally.
I am minus $27,000 lifetime at Del Mar I state as a degenerate horse player.

Have to love good record keeping.
I can't play Fairgrounds. It's like a curse.

It's more like a Carabiner.

You have horses rushing for position into that turn so close to the starting gate. With the large fields the outside posts are the kiss of death. Going wide on sharp turns is murder. You lose the same amount of ground but you lose it suddenly or have to run much faster than the inside horses.
And I thought the outside posts at Aqueduct and Gulfstream were bad in 9 furlong races.
