USFL impressions
Good competitive game in opener, REALLY like some rule changes from the NFL 1) kicking off form the 25 yd line (So tired of NO runbacks as the ball goes through the end zome again and again kicking from the 40), 2)MAX penalty of 15 yds for Defensive Pass Interfence (tired of a single penalty swinging and entire game)
Use of the drone camera was interesting and allowed a different, UP CLOSE view.
FEW penalties as well!

I see the USFL as I do minor league baseball. Little interest, if any.

the average attendance for AAA ball last year was 4800. some teams drew an occasional 10,000 per game if they hold that much.
the new Worcester Red Sox expects a big draw this year, last year they averaged only 6100. the reason for the low number might be because of the Corona and their very first year hosting a team.

If they get that much interest they’ll be fine. Minor league parks do pretty well. The tickets and concessions are cheap and family friendly. We have the Valley Cats up here and they are only an “A” team. Real young kids but they’re good. The place is filled all summer long and its very popular. Fireworks after weekend night games and a sort of contest where you buy numbered tennis balls and after the game you throw them at targets on the field for prizes. The place is a summer hit. You open the program and it lists all the kids that made it to the big leagues. It’s up to about 40 guys. And a few of those are very successful stars.

I like the opener, good game, good coverage.
I will watch regularly.
Better game last night than a lot of NFL games.

I second that about the opening game last night with it having good coverage and unknown plays of where you didn't know what was going to happen not like in the NFL where you know "Oh Brady again with a TD to Evans boring!" or "Aaron Donald with another sack"

I watched the end, typical football coach move. Fourth and 2, been running the ball great, opts for a FG from a kicker that was 0 for 2.
He made the field goal, but still nearly two minutes left, of course the other team drives down for the win with time to spare. These guys just can't help themselves at every level.
As to the original post, the NFL hasn't kicked off from the 40 in decades. It was moved to 35 yards in 1974. It stayed there until 1994 when it was moved to the 30 yard line. It moved back to the 35 in 2011.
The current rule change is for safety allegedly, keeps down the long running sprints before hitting someone. Whether it works or not, I have no idea.

What it did do is take away one of the most exciting plays in football....
Example : You opponent just kicked a field goal with 3 seconds left
Your down 24-20......
99.9 % you lose
But if you can return a kick off ....theres always a chance
to......

2nd. Surprised by the speed of the game. Like the mics and cameras.

Watched some of the opener...suddenly it hit me: I recall Herschel Walker playing for the NJ Generals in the original USFL in the 80's.
Googled it and yep-he sure did. Anyone else remember that?

Trump owned that team. Remember Steve Young playing for the LA Express?

Yeah! I do remember that (incredibly, almost 40 years ago).
