Oh, UPSy Daisy, Where Has All the Ammo Gone?
CEO says TWO-THIRDS of ammunition deliveries have gone MISSING with UPS
That's a lot of ammo. So, where is it now?

Great question. But UPSY Daisy ain't talkin'. Great non-answer to Glenn Beck, too.

From the article:
Collins said UPS blames the packaging even though his company has always "met and exceeded" all available packaging protocols.
They do that all the time. I bought an antique counting scale off of E-bay,
The shipper put it inside a small crate and packed it in tightly, inside the crate. Then they put the crate in a thick walled cardboard box and packed the gaps with heavy packing paper. It arrived at my place with a caved in side to the box with a tire track on it. I sent pictures to the person I bought the scale from, claim denied, poor packaging.
Of all the shippers I have inbound and out bound packages with, UPS is by far the worst.

I wonder how FedEx stacks up? Seems to me these ammo shippers need to find another shipper.

I think it just depends on the management team at the places your package travels. I belong to another forum that has a lot of fellow machine shop owners, everyone seems to have a favorite shipper and one they hate and they all vary. Running a business from two different locations I rank my shippers Fedex, USPS, and UPS in that order. Fedex has never lost or damaged anything, but I definitely do the least volume with them. USPS has sent some of my packages on some odd journeys, but they eventually got where they were going.

If it were me... I'd enclose a small GPS tracker in some of the packages that are heading into the void of no return. To see where they are ending up at.
Or maybe even just put a big red sticker that stated THIS PACKAGE MAY CONTAIN A GPS TRACKING UNIT. On the side just to give them pause on "misplacing" the package.

I doubt any of that ammo is lost, it is getting stolen. Pretty easy to sell and prices these days are high.

OTR,
What you have described is so logical that it makes you wonder why some higher up at UPS hadn't thought of it.
Sort of like the obvious questions we are asking of the WH.
Gee... do you think there might be an AGENDA?

A few years ago, our shop had made some changes to some plastic parts for cars that we made for GM, and we had to send them some sample parts to get their approval to start production.
I sent them UPS about a week before Christmas.
The next, I got an email from GM with some photos attached. The engineer told me they were photos of the package he received.
There was a Santa Clause, a reindeer , and an elf some candy bars and a bag of cookies, alongg with the samples.
He wanted to know if I was trying to bribe him. lol.
Apparentyly, the boxes got damged and they stuffed all the stuff into my box.

With every one sent out just include a prepaid return envelope. Even if you lose 10% as non returned would still be way ahead.
