Horse mixup at Turf Paradise
Ut oh!
And of course, one of them wins at 29-1.
What i find interesting is why the jockey Chris Russell, who rode the "good one" 6 times in a row, didn't realize in the post parade that he wasn't warming up the horse he had ridden 6 times in a row, didn't realize he was being legged up on a different horse in the paddock either. To me, that seems strange. How is it possible he didn't know right away?
The race in question is the 7th race on March 28th.

Could you tell us what the mixup was?
I can't find anything about it on the internet elsewhere.

The one thing I thought was interesting is that the handle was higher on that race than any other that day. Maybe a coincidence, but I don't like that way it looks.
"A total of $51,084 was bet in the win-place-show pools on that race. By comparison, the day’s other WPS pools were: $14,649, $28,153, $36,349, $18,879, $24,850, $27,247 and $37,748."

The original poster should have at least stated what the content in that article does.
By the way, jockeys ride lots of horses in a week.
Unless one is special in some unique way , it would be easy for one not to notice that he was on the wrong horse.

The horse identifier should be fired at once. No excuse here.

Agree the identifier should be fired. He has one job to do and was either too incompetent or just didn't care to do it. I'm not sure how the public and the track can have confidence in this guy after this. The trainer and those involved with the horse should be fully investigated as well.

I put more blame on the barn than a guy trying to read tattooed lips.
MacFarlane should have known who he was saddling.

If these numbers are correct, that is pretty interesting. However, if anyone at all bet knowing those two runners were mixed-up, wouldn't the winner have been much less than 29-1? It would appear that the larger betting was basically on the losing horses, which quashes a conspiracy theory here.

The extra handle was because there was an hour before the race. After the sixth they ran some ostrich and camel races, that left lots of time before the race, which naturally increases handle.
