Your opinion of Joe Bravo?
I was disappointed in his ride on With Exultation at Belmont on Sunday, and I thought his ride on Red Vine wasn't that great either.
Yet, somehow BRIS shows him as having a 17% winning percentage on turf. Is he really that good?
He also started off 0 for 8 at Belmont, so maybe that 17% will come down very soon.

He is not a force at a major track. He has proven that over and over again.

Bravo
He has always been excellent (and often overbet) in New Jersey.
He knows the Monmouth turf better than anyone.
Maybe not to the same degree, but I agree with Robert that he is less reliable outside of NJ. For example, he won some nice races on Little Mike, but ultimately lost the rode and a chance at the Breeders Cup.
He is a top 40 jockey nationwide for sure, not top 15.

I agree. Good enough rider overall but "Jersey" Joe Bravo is a big fish in a small pond IMO.

Bravo is a great rider as long as the other riders in the race stink

You guys hit it on the head when you said he's the big fish in the small pond. Someone mentioned that he's excellent over there, i'm not even sure that's the case. I think he just gets first choice of all the better and live horses over there.
You would think by now that if he was that good, he would have made the jump over to NY full time. Maybe this past weekend is futher proof why he hasn't made the transition.

The Russel Baze of New Jersey? In my mind he's a fairly good competemt jockey. He's getting to be past his prime though. Even at Monmouth they've caught up to him last few years.
The 18% inludes riding first call for the likes of ET Broome and others.

When he rides against top competition, like Belmont or SPA he is certainly a second class jockey compared against the likes of JV, JC etc.
He has weak hands and usually seems lost in the traffic, especially when he rides the rail.

I tend to agree with what people are saying and thats why i like him (hes under the radar). He doesn't do as well in NY but if you ignore him on grass horses during the Gulfstream meet.........do so at your own risk. He gets overlooked down there all the time and bounces in great prices. You don't get crap on him in Jersey but when he goes to Florida......me and my friends have made some dollars on him (many times). He gets live horses (at Gulfstream) that don't get bet because of what everyone is saying here. Hes plenty good enough and trainers know it.

He is always a threat on any turf course.
Don't overlook him when he is a price.

Used to get great prices on him back when the Fla Derby was still early in March. Those last couple weeks of the meet after all the names left you could clean up on him. I think he's better on turf than dirt.

Angel Serpa is just as good a rider on the turf and he doesn't get overbet as much as Bravo.

I agree with this, I think Serpa is very under-rated on the sod.

Agree 110% about Florida prices, but don't fall asleep when Joe
travels to Delta, Indiana Downs, and other "B" tracks for a ride or two...
He doesn't make the trip for the 'Frequent-Flyer Miles'.

I thought he rode both races well. Vine was super, he got caught behind that grey slug on the far turn and just missed. Not sure why you though the rode a bad race in the finale, what was he supposed to do?
