Gulfstream Park West exotics
Why does the Monday card at GPW have no Pick 4s or Pick 3s and just an occasional double?

Because racing caters to the handicapper's/bettor's wants and needs at all times...
Probably has to do with some sort of ridiculous state or racing commission requirement due to the whole racing at Calder jamboree...who knows...all I know is that it's another example of racing doing what it wants, when it wants, with no regard for the customer who is used to having a more engaging betting menu to choose from.

Could be related to the licensing issue. They have fixed their interaction with the ADWs, but perhaps they are still operating some races under each license.

Ridiculous.
But not as ridiculous as racing in Virginia.

Seems like there will be no P3's, P4's, P5's or P6's on Mondays. They did debut the Pick 10 today with a 10% takeout. Same as the Rainbow 6 in that someone has to have a perfect ticket to win the jackpot. Mandatory payout on Nov 17th.

True - but we've all got the option NOT TO BET, right?
Tired of what a particular track is doing?
don't play that track

Gulfstream Park West, or Gulfstream Park Worse?
Hey, every game needs a good laugh.
And this meet is a joke.

Unlike the Rainbow 6, you don't need to be the only one with a perfect ticket, making it a lot more like a standard Pick 6.
Most of you cry and cry about low takeouts and low minimums...so a track develops a 10 cent bet with a TEN PERCENT takeout, and people don't play it (only $5,538 in the pool). Winners went 7 for 10, each getting $830, not bad for a 10 cent wager.
Hopefully the $25,000 carryover into next monday will help spur the pot.

Takeout is only meaningful when you win the bet. This one has an effective 46% takeout and is all but impossible to win the big prize. Worst bet available. There is no reason anyone should play this bet.

Take a look at the Pletcher firster (Night Out) from the 7th on Monday. I'm sure he beat a bunch of deadbeats but it was a decent effort. I know he was 3/5.

How does it have an effective 46% takeout? If you pick 10, you win or share the pool.
No different than a pick 4 at any other track in America. If nobody picks all 10, you still have a chance to win the consolation which is 60% of the entire pool, including previous carryover.

This is how it works as long as someone does not pick 10 (saying that almost makes me laugh out loud)
10% takeout on the bet so 90% goes into the pool. As long as someone does not pick 10 correctly, 40% of that 90%, ie 36% of the amount bet, goes into the carry pool automatically. 10% +36% = 46%
P.S. the odds of picking 10 are extremely low. So low in fact that even if you do pick 10 correctly, you are likely not getting paid remotely a fair price based on the odds of the event.

Unless you are the only winner, only 54% is returned to bettors. That is a 46% takeout. So for almost all the bettors, that is the takeout. For lone winners, it is not.
