Santa Anita 5F turf sprints

They're going to run them this fall meet. I posted a while back that I thought they should run them just for variety, mixing up the distances makes things more interesting - good for them.

Just going to hurt the 6.5f turf races IMO...we'll see.

With the unique course layout there, I predict a group of wire job specialists will dominate both the betting and the victories...you need the extra 1.5 furlongs to give closers any shot...

There goes the 6.5 downhill for the BC Turf Sprint.
Extremely poor decision IMHO.

Why not card some 2 furlong turf sprints while they are at it?
MAybe add some quarter horse races to boot.

California going nuts with short and NYRA going bonkers with stupid long distances.

It'll be interesting to see if they continue this new distance into the next meet.

They have positioned the gate. Looks like a very short runup with the rails at 0.

Cj will love this.

There is enough difference between the two distances to make both of them viable. And how about running 7.5f turf races? Or don't they know that this is the 21st Century?

OMG...MORE turf sprints?

I would rather they brought back the MULE races.
Why would you need a 7.5 and and 8.0 turf race?

At least California has something NY doesn't - have SUN!

If it's around two turns, it is not a sprint.

This is Cratos-level obfuscation.

The turf sprints at the NYRA tracks have proved wildly popular with the bettors - so much so that the Inner Dirt Track at Aqueduct was replaced with a turf course so that 6-furlong turf races could be run on it (I never could figure out how they could fit 6-furlong races on the Inner Dirt Track into that "corner").

I was referring to the 5 furlong crap.
Why do you need 7.5 and 8.0?
Should we add 1m40 and 1m70 too?

They have to be popular - there are few other choices.
I would never look an Aqueduct cared, let alone bet one.

I like it. There's enough difference between 5 and 6.5 to make it meaningful. Add to that the difference in track layout between the 2, and it'll make each distance a handicapping puzzle when moving from one to the other.
