Saturday, January 26, 2019 OP race 6

I know most will be concentrating on the Pegasus card, but thought this was an interesting race and i will be there in person to tear up my tickets after I lose.

1 1/16 Miles | Open | 4 Year Olds And Up | ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING : $75,000 | PURSE: $80,000
Daily Double / Exacta / 50 Cent Trifecta / 10 Cent Superfecta 50 Cent Pick 3 (Races 6-7-8) / 50 Cent Pick 4 (Races 6-7-8-9)

Chris and Dave D. Cohen 117 Lbs R. Diodoro L
Bluegrass Cat - Stolen Humor | Distorted Humor
Always like this one. Allowance winner at both Belmont and Saratoga last year. Poor run in the Claiming Crown Jewel. Never won at OP but in the $ 5 for 5. Will use
Secret Passage O. Mojica 117 Lbs R. Diodoro L
Curlin - Sweet Eloise | Sky Classic
won OC$62/nX2 at Belmont two back. Fastest beyer in the slop. 20-6-1-2 record w/$307k in the bank. Seen stranger things happen
Cake Pop D. Cabrera 119 Lbs A. Quartarolo L
Notional - Hey There Cupcake | Prized
Paolucci's horse, banked $335k; 2nd off a layoff, 0 for 2 at the distance-pass
M G Warrior C. Lanerie 119 Lbs D. Stewart L
Majestic Warrior - Marvel Gaye | Bowman's Band
7-3-3-0 record comes off a win @CD going 1 1/16 w/a 91 beyer. Lanerie has rode him to all 3 wins. Bullet work 1/7- 1/41; some things to like
Dazzling Gem F. De La Cruz 117 Lbs B. Cox L
Misremembered - Dazzler | Vindication
Brad Cox entry 2nd off, lost to Lone Rock last. Best lifetime beyer at OP. Will use underneath.
Limation R. Vazquez 117 Lbs S. Asmussen L
Alternation - Lime Lady | Limehouse
Winner of the grade 3 Super Derby @LAD. Poor effort in the Zia Park Derby last out. Asmussen trains which normally means underlay. Some decent runs at OP to start his career. Leaning against but may use in tris
Lone Rock A. Canchari 122 Lbs W. Van Meter L
Majestic Warrior - Ruby Lips | Hard Spun
Won minor stake at Remington last out beating Harlan Punch who won a stake last weekend at FG if memory serves. Seems to be going the right way. Interested to see what his odds end up-will use
Remembering Rita A. Birzer 117 Lbs D. Anderson L
Spring At Last - Deep South | Unbridled's Song
Cornhusker stakes winner beating Mccraken, Dalmore, Hence among others. Well beaten by Mind your biscuits in the Lukas Classic last out, but so was everyone else. Steady works at Op-leaning against.
One Liner R. Santana, Jr. 117 Lbs S. Asmussen L
Into Mischief - Cayala | Cherokee Run
Southwest stakes winner in 2017 returns to the scene of his best race (DH for 2nd in the Pimlico Special was a good race also). Last seen running 9th in the Metropolitan Handicap. Now trained by Asmussen. That big beyer at OP stands out and should be the chalk. Will play in my tri wheel
Casino Star E. Morales 119 Lbs T. Van Berg L
Flatter - Greenstreet | Street Cry*Ire
Beat MG Warrior last race 11-4-2-1 career record good for $125k in purses. Seems up against it.
Rated R Superstar W. De La Cruz 117 Lbs C. Contreras L
Kodiak Kowboy - Wicked Wish | Gold Case
Claimed last out from Mcpeek, $518k in the bank. Grade 3 winner of the Ben Ali at KEE. Has won at OP. Some things to like. If I owned this horse I would run him around 1 turn. Previous connections willing to dump him for $65k-best days behind him?
Flameaway S. Elliott 117 Lbs M. Casse L
Scat Daddy - Vulcan Rose | Fusaichi Pegasus
13-5-3-0 record nothing to sneeze at. 2nd in the Jim Dandy, winner of the Sam Davis, 2nd in the Blue Grass to Good Magic. Speed and class is always dangerous. Off since 8/2018. Steady works, will take a lot of money.

Think Lone Rock goes off as an overlay-will play him straight up. Will play a tri wheel , , over same and w/same and stretching on the bottom. Who do you like?

Had a half hour to kill, so I thought, why not look at this.

Some horses in here with some interesting back stories. and #9 all had form that told a story. What a heartbreak it must have been to have had to put One Liner away for a year after a nice win. I took a few minutes and watched a couple replays of Flameaway. I saw he beat Catholic Boy last winter down at Tampa. As last year went along, I became more and more impressed with Catholic Boy, so Flameaway's win early in the year kind of interested me. Frankly, I think he will ultimately prove to be pretty effective at a flat mile on the turf. That Bourbon, BC Juv T, and Kitten's Joy little stretch was damn nice.

After all that I'll go with M G Warrior, Keen/Lanerie. The colt looks like he's moving forward each time he takes the track, he's been handled well, Lanerie seems to know him pretty well, and it looks like the horse may have some real ability. Lanerie has had to be patient with him a couple times, and has had to press the issue with him, both situations the colt did everything he was asked. I have no issue with Keen running through his condition options before taking on added money company. Matter of fact, I like it, a lot, in this particular case. This colt could be getting ready to kick off a nice 2019.

Lotta horses look to be able to hit the board here but for the win spot it's hard for me to look past the back class of the and who will be the likely co-favorites come post time. Don't like Flameaway's post as it looks to me like he needs the lead...good enough horse to get a piece but might be chasing 3-4 wide the whole way.

Only horse at odds I can see upsetting the race would be the but it seems like I won't be the only one on the horse. Hope we can get 6-1 on him.

Two others I like underneath to finish out a tri are the and Chris and Dave has enough speed to be dangerous and is 5/5 itm at OP but if he falters for some reason you still have a decent enough closer in the to pick up the pieces.

Remembering Rita should get great stalking position off the and has the figs to back up the 6-1 ML odds

I'm probably going to fire a few bucks on Rated R Superstar since I figure he's likely to be at least 20-1 and I'm just really curious what he is going to do.

Not only was he claimed out of his last race, but it was his first time on Lasix. This guy is no novice - graded stakes placed at 2, a winner of the G3 Carry Back as a 3yo., the Grade 3 Ben Ali at age five - without the use of Lasix.

He hasn't been in particularly good form since late summer... maybe there's a reason McPeek saw the need to run him for a tag for once and turn to lasix way late in the game. He gets claimed, then gets a nice little break, and reappears for the new barn at a track he has performed well at in his career and he is in under the allowance conditions. The barn's instinct was NOT to "oh hell yeah let's save the condition just in case and if they nab him for the $75k so be it".

He's a neat horse and he's one that should be moving last. It seems like there could be a hectic pace or at least a contentious first three-quarters without a lot of opportunities for breathers. If it plays out that way, it could fall apart for him as he goes second with lasix off a break at a big price.

Remembering Rita: Figure wise is the best. But a declining figure, followed buy a break, and another declining figure says caution. Three wins in a row and they all had one thing in common. Was able to run on Bute. Too many red flags.

Chris and Dave: Gets the best draw of the entry, and that is probably good. Has run good enough to win the race and is the only E runner in the race. At 6-1 the price is right. Interesting and playable.

One Liner: Asmussen and Santana off a break at Oaklawn. Can win but the price might not be there.

Dazzling Gem: Good enough figure wise to be there. But has proven he needs pace help, and even when he has gotten it has failed. 3rd or fourth is the best I can see.

Flameaway: Coming off a break with a wide draw and 5 other horses inside of him that want to be up front. Needs to work out a trip or go to the front. Neither is a good option for him. No doubt he is good enough to win this, but the post and the race shape say bet against.

M G Warrior: Very interesting at the price. Shows some versitility, and can surprise.

Rated R Superstar: New barn and has some talent. Has ran races that can compete here and might be worth a small risk at the price.

Excellent observation. I saw that also. Had to go to Prairie Meadows to get the job done. Kind of stunning they let him off at 20-1 after the 2 absolute blowouts at dimes on the dollar.

MOTO play. 5 year old horse has graded stakes talent. Horse has major problems and major talent. Hard horse to bet against.

Glad Oaklawn is about to open.
Woodbine & Oaklawn are the two tracks I bet religiously.
This is a good looking race.
It looks like I'll go three deep in the P-3/4/5 here.
This is how I see this bunch:

/ I like C & D going one turn much more.....he'll hang for you a bit at two turns.
SP fits nicely.....but I hate the strung out post going two turns @ OKL.

Terrible ML....he'll be lower...like a lot.....easy use.

Brad Cox was giant @ OKL last year...….don't like this horse though.
His easy win here last year was counterfeit.....caught a huge track bias and every other surface & pace advantage that day...…But it is Brad Cox....won't carry him.

Asmussen horses usually benefit from a race over at this meet......pass.

Great barn.....Hay & Oats horseman....nice Colt....will carry.

Only in Iowa.

I have no clue....I'll probably wait for his next one.

Got a dream trip.....don't like playing those types back.

Barn hasn't been great @ OKL in the past.....this horse doesn't feel right.

Nice Colt...hate post....tote board might help....maybe.

The two I'll carry for sure are /……..I'll add one more to my tickets pending track bias/tote board/warm barns....all that kind of stuff as the first two days shape up.

Think Chris & Dave is strong rabbit...maybe softens up other speed horses...setting up mid-pack or deep close for the win.
