Was Desperate Man a colossal fluke to win the Pepsi North America Cup 2021?

It certainly looks that way. In its first start since the NA Cup, a ONSS Gold event he finished a no threat 3rd in that race. Then yesterday in a conditioned race for a purse of a measly $26000, he again failed and came 4th. There was talk that he was entered in the race just for preps for a future OSS Super Final event. If he races in the OSS Super Final the way he did in his last 2 starts since the NA Cup, they will chew him alive there.

I think the horse is just kind of always at the mercy of the pace and cover flow with that lack of gate speed. Plus, horses like Mahem can be pretty tough when they are at their best.

Bogo: Thanks for your comment. Pace certainly wasn't the issue in his last race with a 25.3 1st quarter and a 53.4 half. Getting beat by overnight horses like Mayhem Hanover, Beyond Better and Speedy Dominic A tells me something is not all right with Desperate Man.

We shall see how he fares in the OSS Super final.

Mohawk Oct 16 Race 9

Desperate Man brought his A game to the plate today and won the OSS Gold Super Final for 3 year C&G off a tough first over trip.

My apologies to the NA Cup champion and his connections for doubting his abilities and convinced me that winning the NA Cup was no fluke.

Here is the replay of the race. Enjoy

Congratulations to the connections for winning this race.
