The issue is that can't be a NATO operation as it goes against the articles of the Treaty. It would likely just be us, the French, and the UK.

Then those planes have to come from somewhere... we can't get a Carrier anywhere near close enough so they'll have to be based out of somewhere. Probably Poland and Romania.

Those countries would then have to give permission knowing doing so means they now can't trigger NATO Article 5 if Russia responds.

Now assuming all of that is addressed the last issue is all of this would play in to Putin's domestic propaganda campaign that the real aggressor is the west and not Russia.

Maybe it is time to trigger Article 5.

The opposition media outlets were RUSSIAN (duh)...

Anyhoo, as snopes would put it...it might be a MIXTURE in terms of true or not.

This kind of bullshit is beneath even you, as much as it pains me to type something like that.

First off, it's not going better than "we" (whoever WE is...) could have possibly imagined. Ask Ukrainian citizens how they think things are going in their country. Are they part of the WE?

Ask Biden how it's going, since before the war, he publicly stated the sanctions in place were meant to DETER an invasion. Thus, his administration FAILED at that goal. Is that going better then imagined?

Now we move onto the war itself. WE (and I assume you mean the USA) have little say in the ACTUAL WAR...so we have pretty much NO CONTROL on the outcome...thus, it's not really OUR victory lap to take if it goes swimmingly from here on out, is it? It would be the FAILURE of Putin and the Russian Army, would it not? And to a lesser extent, the better then expected ability of Ukraine to hold them at bay for longer than expected.

For the record, this war should NEVER have happened in the FIRST PLACE. THAT WOULD QUALIFY AS GOING BETTER THAN POSSIBLY IMAGINED.

Until the dust settles, which is going to take a much longer time then all the immediate gratification under-40 folks realize, WE have NO CLUE how this is going to turn out.

Looks like those downed aircraft were able to carry out their mission, if the explosions on the ground are any indication, right before whatever that was blew up in the air...

War in "breadbasket" threatens food supply

Does this sound like "better than expected outcome?"

Nope...sounds like "nobody thought ahead"

The longer this war goes, the less sympathetic I am towards this Ukrainian president. He had warnings and plenty of evidence that Putin was going to attack, not to mention the troop buildup at the border. He could have negotiated with Putin and come to an agreement. True, he would have been on the losing end, but look at the lives it would have saved. I see him as a leader willing to sacrifice his people to save his own worthless ass. His approval rating with his own people before the war was 20%, so even they didn't like him much. He knows now he'll eventually be hunted down and killed.
So fight to the bitter end he says, and send us more weapons and aid. Chances are the Russians are taking most off it while marching in.
I'm in no way defending Putin and his savagery, but this turd isn't any better for taking his country through holy hell.
He even looks and sounds like a fkn coward.

US Foreign policy has been pushing Ukraine along this path all along.

Listen to that Univ of Chicago professor talk about it six years ago. He saw this coming a mile away.

It's no wonder ely considers the situation in Ukraine to be a win so far for US.

This is exactly what the geniuses manning those think-tanks wanted.

They don't care one bit if Ukraine gets crushed along the way.

But they'll do a nice job of faking it.

Stop me if you've heard this one before....
Power-mad dictator wants to put his fallen empire back togethere, makes claim that all he wants to is this one incursion to reunite many of his own citizens, but he has already written a manifesto outlining his real goals of massive nation-grabbing, but he signs a peace agreement assurring peace.

Anyone know that one turned out?

I don't think we've ever actually been big on sweet crude production.

Could be wrong though.

I didn't look over those charts to thoroughly to see the breakdown.
