Stellar Wind Beats Beholder

What a race, if you didn't watch it, watch the replay. Tremendous performance by Stellar Wind and great ride by Victor Espinoza.

Great race, reminiscent of the San Diego.

I haven't seen the pools yet, but I'm very surprised they allowed show betting on the race, esp with a six horse field.

The downside of this is that she will probably pass the Pacific Classic unless she was not 100% cranked for today by design. I was looking forward to betting against her in that spot. Now, even if she goes, she will not take as much money.

I don't think there would be any harm if Beholder tried the Pacific Classic, but I agree they probably will find an excuse out of it now.

I agree. That is racing in today's world. Some of the comments on Beholder on TVG yesterday were hyperbole. They were saying things like, "you've got to put her in the elite class like Zenyatta....". There's only one filly I'd mention in the same breath as Z and that was Ruffian.

There's about 5 or 6 I'd put into the conversation, and not sure Zenyatta comes out in the top two. Her career was overly staged imo.

Hopefully they won't retire her. LOL God forbid you lose a race these days. Although I think she has 6 losses so hopefully they'll run her in the P. Classic.

Z was very good but it's hard to know where she falls. She's an outlier, with her run occurring during the synthetic experiment. She not only loved the surface, but her running style was aided by the surface.

There can be no doubt, even among Z lovers, that Z would've lost more races had she run exclusively on dirt, against competitors who were superior on dirt, not synthetic, and who would've been able to hold on to a lead on dirt. So Z may not be better than Beholder, who like Rachel and Havre de Grace, did win in open company on dirt, something Z never did.

I'd love to see a race between Zenyatta, Rachel, Havre de Grace, Beholder, and Royal Delta. Let's also throw in Blind Luck and Rags to Riches. I don't think any one of these stands head and shoulders above the others, and that any one of them could and would win in a series of 10 races. Which one of those would take a second or third win in the series is the question.

She probably will be the third best horse in The Pacific Classic if she goes.

IMHO, Beholder is one of those fillies/mares that has generally be underrated by speed figures but whose overall record probably flatters her a bit because of that huge win against boys in a moderate field with a perfect trip. She's hard not to like a lot. My guess is that she was not fully ranked yesterday. Mandella knows what he is doing. They have (or at least had) the Pacific Classic in mind.

He has been quoted as saying he went to the PC last year because everything went perfect. And now this time it hasn't gone perfect.

I think we should have not going as the favorite.

I haven't looked at the card at all, but you have the race a lot faster than Beyer. The preliminary Beyer is 100.
