APBA/Strat-O-Matic

I suspect quite a few on year played one, or both, back in the day. For me, I played APBA Baseball but Strat-O-Matic for football and horse racing.

What, if any, did you play?

My brother and I played APBA Baseball, Valuist. Back in the 1960's - I wish I could remember more about the game other than that we were into it for sure.

Start o matic baseball all the way.Praying that the dice would hit the 1-2 or 1-12 combo which just about guaranteed a home run, unless you were a no power banjo hitter.

Strat-o-matic baseball and football. APBA golf. Never lost with Craig Wood. Good times.

Never played Strat-O-Matic as a kid...was too busy playing a dice & cards game called Superstar Baseball.
Absolutely loved it

Sports Illustrated came out with a series of dice-controlled games around 1970 that took up most of my game-playing time. I had golf, football, and horse-racing; a friend had baseball, I'm pretty sure.

And there was a series of games where the action was plotted with a grease pencil on a folding plastic board that could be easily cleared...I want to say 3M created those, but that's really testing the memory banks.

Doh, now I'm gonna have to go down in the basement and dig around some.

Over forty years ago, Extra Innings...by jack cavanaugh. Statistically the most accurate game at that time.

Actually played this while working Nuke security as a rotating fire team member while in the Air Force.

Yes, finally! Someone else has heard of this game...it made me a baseball historian after reading the back of each player's card.
Got to know about guys like Harry Heilmann and Bucketfoot Al Simmons.
Practically had most guys' lifetime stats memorized

I would play that game today if I had a copy of it

I played APBA. I actually created my own APBA-like football game.

When i was younger, I was addicted to Red Barber Baseball.

I played tabletop baseball exclusively. No football, basketball, etc. After trying a variety of the games during my youth I eventually settled on Statis Pro Major League Baseball. I found it to be the most fun to play and, although I cannot prove it, I found it to be the most statistically sound game. A good friend of mine and I still play it from time to time. There is even an online version available, which I have not yet tried (not enough hours in the day).
