Just wondering

Do we have any cappers here that wager online and never been to a race track? This day is coming in the next generation or so.

Al, I love how you help me to wake up on a Friday to such glad tidings.

I hope it is a good feeling. The kids today think that there are no good black and white movies, can't read an analog clock, don't do cursive writing well beyond their name. Why not never have visited a track? The only track that I know of that is just trying to invite youngsters down with the family for a good day is Canterbury.

Fewer than those that watch/bet football every sunday and have never been to a pro football game.

Although I did go to a couple of tracks earlier, I haven't been to the track since 2004, bet online. Never really liked going to the track anyway (way too many distractions and nonsense), but now that I'm 80 miles away, one way, it's doubtful I will go again any time soon, and at my age that probably means never.

If NTRA wants to take horse racing to the next level, they are going to have to figure out how to reach people who have never been at a track but are online. It appears that the casinos have down this successfully with online training videos. If the market isn't coming to racing then racing has to go to them.

i have to disagree with this. in the summer time race tracks are full of people that are first time customer's. they are going to places that attract them as an afternoon out instead of the beach or other recreational activities.

it is up to the track to turn those people into stay at home customer's. the racing industry used to have the model down pat and it was bullet proof for the survival of the game, but through the years they haven't protected the model that worked so well for them. the tracks got sold and became another corporate entity. the people that run the tracks today are more interested in their paychecks than the success of the sport.

A lot of people don't get near a track anymore since they've been closing up.The industry can't count in the locals anymore with fewer and fewer tracks available. The battlefield for customers is online in cyberspace.

Yes, that was the case over 10 years ago, and yet the tracks have, by and large, ignored them. Sure they'll take the ADW's money in the pools but they refused to embrace what was the only growth segment in the industry. It can only get worse unless the tracks and states wake up and see the writing on the wall, for once.

It seems that the Austrians might have worked this out with a few tracks combining their races and making a single racing card. It's all Internet.

just keep putting on races like they have had in Saratoga this meet and you will need to build many more tracks.

look at the Adirondack Stake on Saturday. those 2 horses, JUST WICKED and TONASAH just layed it all on the line from start to finish of the race. the regular overnight races have been the same way. year to year Saratoga is up over 20% in handle. put on more races like this one and the handle will be up even more. i watched on Sunday and most of the races had riders going at it the whole way around. even people that lost their money could not complain about the effort they got. you are not getting this in Del Mar, and they are up in handle.

when you get action like this you want to be there and feel the electricity as the riders ride out their horses.

We feel like that, but the younger generation won't be on our wave length at the start. They have to be lured in.
