A white basketball exec can't joke about an African American player, because white people will come after him with their presumed sense of righteousness. Yes, it was a joke about an African bazaar with nice stuff in the front to sell junk in the back. Big deal. Oh, the e-mail was private...
A white NBA team owner can't ask his Asian (?) girlfriend not to come to games (on his tab) with black people. Maybe not the nicest thing to say, but we don't know the context and the conversation was private. To force the sale of his team, the powers that be decide he's no longer fit to judge and declare him insane.
A black athlete knocks his wife-to-be unconscious in a public elevator. The video tape, unlike the communication in the above two cases, was not private. And what does the NFL do? Look the other way.

I said this to someone last night, Sterling says dont bring blacks to my games and not only does he get a lifetime ban, but he is forced to sell a billion+ asset. Rice punches someone in the face, could have killed her instantly, and he gets a slap on the wrist, 2 game suspension.
No doubt, its a joke.

Speaking about a joke,49rs radio broadcaster Ted Robinson is suspended and must undergo sensitivity training because he said he couldn't understand Ray Rice's girlfriend marrying him after the beat down in the elevator, but Ray McDonald a player on the 49s just got arrested for felony domestic violence 2 weeks ago (beat up his pregnant girlfriend) and is still playing for the team...........

You are exactly right and it will happen. The media isn't going to let this go until he's forced out.

Generally the NFL front office does not act until the court case has been decided, but have been exceptions . NFL teams themselves sometimes act sooner. Other sports leagues often do not wait either. They are waiting the courts in the McDonald case.
From the reports I read, Robinson was critical of the victim for marrying Rice. That is a lot different than say I am to stupid to understand why is she did it. Hopefully he will learn the difference in the classes he has to take. Or maybe he should ask her out the presence of Rice. As a spokesman for the 49s, Robinson must not say anything that embarrasses the team. It is undoubtedly in his contract. It is no different in any line of work.

The direction this country is taking is so beyond un-American it's almost catastrophic. It's not even like I disagree with a lot of the "politically correct" stances on controversial issues (I do on a few). It's just so intrinsically arrogant and wrong to destroy people's careers and businesses because they have unfashionable views, made a dumb comment or mistake, made a joke, or aren't informed enough. A lot of the crap that was "fashionable" when I was kid turned out to be wrong. I find the whole thing horrific and repulsive.

It's interesting too because it's generally the same crowd who thinks prison isn't helpful and recovery and treatment are helpful (which I think has some merit in many cases). But when it comes to a racist comment, an unthoughtful joke, or just something stupid being done, they hammer on the gas pedal to punish, punish, punish.
Most athletes who commit crimes like these, almost always get a second chance, both on the field and in the court of public opinion. Mayweather, Roethlesburger, Vick, Lewis, the list is a million people long. Rice and AP will both get second chances too. And granted they will be punished, and it's ok for people to voice their disgust with the 2 game punishment originally handed down. But now seems some people want him to have a lifetime ban which seems crazy. Now if they ban him a year and then none of the owners want him, then that's a different story. Michael Vick killed dogs for god sake. brutally killed them. Now people love him again. I'd much rather Ray get some real counseling and do some soul searching during his time off then just cast him out into the ether forever. Sorry that got really long winded, should have just said "i agree with you classhandicapper

I see in another thread there's yet another NFL player that's been outed by TMZ for beating his son.
What's the matter with the NFL? Why can't Goodell keep his players in line?

I'm reading all the outrage about the injustices...
Maybe I'm wrong, but the NFL doesn't actually care about any of that shit.
The purpose of the NFL is to sell beer, trucks, cars, credit cards, tech gadgets, phones, soda, snacks, and airplane tickets,... promote armed-forces and other state-sponsored propaganda... support a gambling enterprise, and provide a general distraction from our economy.
The NFL is an ad.
The NFL goes out of their way to avoid potential decreases in the revenue flow caused by negative publicity.

Gotta remember there are 1700 guys in the league that haven't been charged with beating their wives and a few who have. There are some bad eggs for sure.
