Oaklawn is open in Hot Springs, Arkansas since May 18. 9am-3am Sun-Thurs. 9am-5am Fri and Sat. 33% of facility capacity.

Temp checks at the door, driver license for contact tracing (they often asked to show it anyway for age checks), one entrance only. Electrostatically disinfecting during closed hours, lots of hand sanitizing stations. Restaurants and track kitchen open, paper menus, single-serve condiments, social distancing at dining tables.

Have not been over to snap photos or anything, but from what i heard its social distancing (every other slot machine), masks, and for whatever god forsaken reason, they've banned smoking. I don't smoke, but gamblers in casinos are gonna want to smoke so they've just cut off a huge % of their players who want to venture out, right there.

Table games every other seat, dealer and customers masked. Craps 3 people on each side. Roulette is closed. Sports Book is closed.

Nevada has 28% unemployment.

Last number I heard was that 350,000 casino workers are without jobs, with 300,000 of those in Las Vegas.

Like so many businesses, I do not see how such restrictions on number of customers can be sustainable by businesses or employees in the long term.

Or even the medium term.

To make matters worse, I believe the rules are "go back to work or lose your benefits."

Only in certain states, right?

I don't know about Las Vegas. Only "some" properties. Wynn and Encore are Union properties.

Here, they are not.

I read that the governor of Nev said he’s allowing the Nevada Gaming Control Board to have the final say on when casinos can reopen. I think the problem is that they are not making their message very clear.

We're back to same ol problem called LEADERSHP: bad decision-making, no decision-making, unclear up-in-the-air decision making, decision-making that some people don't like, etc.

gambling is a non productive industry. i was in Nevada during the 70's and 80's when properties were going bankrupt and town survived by the skin of its teeth with the junket business. during those years many hotels were a big mess hanging on by its threads like The Riviera Hotel on the strip and others like The Sahara, Landmark, Dunes, Aladin Union Plaza and Stardust. even the Desert Inn needed plenty of work.

in the mid 90's Steve Wynn stepped up to the plate and started building resort type properties on the Vegas strip and it revived the town.

Vegas will come back, but it will take some time this time. it always does.

Some are, most aren't.

Why?

Agree, if you analyze Atlantic City casinos, once competition was up and running in NY and PA almost every casino started to lose money. Casinos, like most businesses, need to be busy, especially during peak seasons and on weekends, or they'll go out of business. This idea that you can have limited capacity in casinos, restaurants, etc., is something that's so stupid that only politicians could have thought of it.
