Assistant starter at Penn National refuses search for buzzers, gets terminated

The number of ways people think up to cheat in this sport truly amazes me.

thats a funny story i rember years ago the oaklawn derby i think it was there was some sort of review of the race where the jock was seen tossing something away after the race well after the races concluded they went to the area where they saw this tossing occure and did some raking an what you know they found dozens of buzzers . when money is involved there will always be underhandedness around

Some of the comments below that piece raise more questions than the piece answers.

Yep, seems like there is a lot more to the story than what Paulick reported. Maybe the guy that was banned refused to comment, but that could have been included if so.

I should have included Parx, it's Pennsyltucky racing that stinks imo. I think heat on the industry has improved things a little over the 20 years I've bet but I'm sure there is still shady stuff going on.

I gave up Penn/Parx and most minor tracks like Charlestown et al, the only one I'll touch is Presque Isle cuz I seem to do well there for some reason. Maybe its the surface, GG, Presque and Woodbine all have tapeta and I do ok at them though I really don't play GG.

Just too many shady things and weird results and dq's that don't make sense, etc at those minor tracks. And about 2/3 of my action now is on Australia which gets me out of the drug trade at least.

The following is a bit of a rant.
(Hey, I think I am overdue.)

You make valid points.

However, where I was aimed was that racing has had a bad reputation when it comes to honesty for many, many decades. That reputation is deserved to one degree or another.

IMHO, the level of dishonesty deemed acceptable in our game is appalling.

A guy gets busted for cheating... could be a jockey, a trainer, or even a vet. We (almost) always hear the same old story: "We don't want to take away his livelihood."

IOW, the livelihood of crooks is more important than the integrity of the game.

How do you suppose MLB would handle a guy who was dropping flies for money?

I agree. Funny you mention baseball, the American pastime though maybe not so much any more. But as I have seen a lot as I approach 60 I feel the American pastime is really cheating at sports lol.
