Of course their share is going to decline going from as other sites come on line. That and the location. Meadowlands is easier to get to from NYC.

I think Monmouth is looking to extend this meet. I am not sure if they can move those meadowland all turf dates or cancel all together and run in Oceanport. They are currently scheduled to close that first football weekend. Stay open to capitalize on the NFL. Why run those dates at the meadowlands and have their book capitalize on it.

That's well and good.....but I would wait and see what happens when more places get going and...……..Football and basketball starts up. Once this gets going and the major betting sports are in season. There will be a better picture of how horse racing fares.

Every legalized move has bitten racings ass. It doesn't cost shit to have numbers, book bets and a little more for machines. Right from the start, they have a cost advantage. They can comp and practically give crap away. Horse racing wants parking, admission and 10 dollar programs. I mean, they are against the eight ball from step one...…….then they want to offer 6 horse fields?

back in the old days when Vegas was full of gamblers, there were lines at the sportsbooks, and when they got done betting their sports they went over to the race book and bet a few races waiting for the games to start.

if i was Monomouth, i would make a nice space for people to hangout and watch their games. have cocktail waitress's running around serving drinks and sandwiches to keep the people there all day. i wouldn't gouge them on the food or drinks. give customers free coffee and soda and donuts early in the morning.
that stuff worked in the desert for years, it will work on the shore.

what i don't want to see is posted lines on horse matchups, and when you go to the window they tell you they are only taking $50, change the line from - 190 to -240 and tell you that you can bet the remaining $1950 on the higher line. they deserve to be spit in the face for trying that move.

Lets face it, Joe.

right now Monmouth horse population for dirt races is shall we say low.

The meadowlands all turf meet allows for fuller fields.

last thursdays dirt races attracted 26 starters for 5 races.

Thats pitiful.

Better to run the meadowlands meet than to run short fields at Monmouth (6 days)

and start building to get more horses on the grounds for next summer.

That means raising purses by a lot.

drazin and the horsemen are starting to reap the rewards of sports betting.
time to start putting that $ to good use.

They can’t run those all turf cards at Monmouth? I know the course takes a beating but still would benefit them to have it at Monmouth if possible

I dont think those 6 dates would have that much impact on Monmouth plus Meadowlands turf course is pristine due to all the rain. Its a wonderful turf course.
