The government knows who has guns. It also knows we citizens are no match for a tactical police/ATF unit or the armed forces.

Govt doesn't know who everyone is.
You assume police would take the side of the govt, ditto the military.

And we saw just how easy it is for the military to sweep through towns in Iraq.

Best to have them and not need them than not have them and need them.

As I have said before...Do Not register your firearms. Just because you never know. And keep plenty of ammo.
