New York-bred champion Gander passes at 26

Sorry to read this yesterday, but thankful that he had a nice, long retirement, particularly after his career-ending injury.

Still enjoy watching his greatest "win":

The stories written about the race were funny. One referred to Gander as "turning himself in to the outrider" after his gallop out, and that he expected to go to the winners circle.

Are you Little Watermelon?

I was going to post something similar but I didn't think anyone would connect with it.

How fitting that two old gray favorites, Gander and Evening Attire, are remembered here.

I love this race with two of my favorites. These are the kind of guys that keep me a racing fan. I think Evening Attire's last win and race getting him qualified for the Breeders Cup was one of the best stories ever. So glad both of them had great lives after racing.
