The same guys who looked promising as rookies and 2nd year players have regressed this year. Look at Flacco, Freeman, Bradford, Sanchez and even a seasoned veteran like Philip Rivers. They've all gotten worse. QB play this year has been abysmal. As for Newton, the jury is out. He put up a ton of passing yardage in the first two games (both losses) and playing catch-up against softer defenses.

If you'd say the game is much more passing friendly now than in 1975, I would agree 100%. But do I believe its more passing friendly now than in 2005? Nothing bears out that it is. Either that or the principals are just getting worse.

I agree they don't have the best O-line but the problem with this thinking is if you don't TRY to run, the defense doesn't need to respect it, and can just tee off and all-out rush the passer. By running more, they would set up the pass better.

Not knocking you, you know that.

Only reason I liked the Pats was all the doom talk. Jets don't match up well with NE because they really don't have the passing game to attack their weaknesses. But the Jets basically handed the game away with mistakes.

Be very interesting to see how the Jets respond in Denver.

I forgot to mention one very obvious disappointing, play-regressing QB: Michael Vick.

Two more broken ribs for Vick in Sunday's loss.

Vick was never an elite QB either.

Rivers was pretty much a weak-fringe elite, playing for a tremendous passing system(coach) and able to make all the throws. Now his unreported shoulder or whatever has taken even those throws from that offense...

the non-elite guys might have a decent season here and there

and the bums like sanchez(maybe REX's ego says he doesn't need a weapon @ QB // this ain't your Father's NFL REX) might get repeated excuses such as they brought in too many good WRS so chemistry is so so hard to digest... BOOO HOOO I JUST CAN'T GET ON THE SAME PAGE AS THESE MONSTERS LIKE HOLMES AND BURRESS SO SAD...

that's what i'm sayin about PARITY ... the few (the elite) can exploit these rules like an Arena football game...

i'm a big fan of CAM Newton right now but i don't know if he will ever get the intelligence....
As huge as his numbers , i'm the kind of arm-chair coach that likes it better when a guy WINS some that he shouldn't have.... But cam can make the throws...

but the real QBs who take advantage of the current rules are the guys who can make all the throws and have great coaches...

Seriously, after watching what the Saints did and seeing some very good teams look like total crap in the last few weeks, it's the only conclusion i can draw.
Every team seems to lay an egg every few weeks and get taken to the woodshed...heck, if my Steelers were really that good they woulda blown the Pats out yesterday but the refs blew a call that took valuable time off the clock, or the Pats may have pulled it out...who knows.

To put it shortly...i am underwhelmed.
Probably the most well thought post in this thread.

Underwhelmed indeed.

CJD...i was about to re-post that because the beat goes on.
EVERYONE can be had, all they need is a little adversity and they won't overcome it

Texans have been impressive i guess, but they give me the feeling of a first time playoff team that had a great regular season only to get rolled by a battle tested playoff squad when it really counts...49ers too.
We'll see...

I have to think the short training camps have something to do with this season. It really is true this year, anyone can beat anyone else, maybe Green Bay excepted but we'll see. Better teams than them have hit the wall after a fast start.

Well, maybe, but at least for few weeks. Matt Lienart takes over. If I were a Texan fan, I would be worried.

I meant that the beat goes on as far as everyone being mediocre...now Houston is mediocre too.
The LAST thing Leinart wants to do is play football.
