Rest in Peace.
It's hard to think of a classier request from a trainer as he prepares to mount the pale horse. Frankel requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Old Friends Retirement Home, the Grayson Foundation, and CANTER, an organization to find homes for retired horses. -- http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...kel-dies-at-68

RIP Bobby. Any guy that skips a race to be with his ailing dog is a great guy. You will be missed.

The fact that Bobby wanted donations made to Old Friends says everything about him. Racing is less without him. Bless you Bobby.

RIP Bobby...my very first trainer...May 5, 1976 at Hollywood Park
We had claimed a cheap Nashua gelding fittingly named Arrival Time from Sidney Martin.
He wins first off the claim on May 5, 1976 at Hollywood Park winning by a NOSE with Bill Shoemaker up ! That winner's circle shot and the program for that race is blown up and right on the wall in my office. Our first horse, so we "arrived" in the horse busines and he went on to win two more races in a short span before he was claimed from us.
What a thrill that was and Bobby's training provided many more over the years back in the day with partners like movie director-producer Martin Ritt and Dr. Morley Engelson (who later was murdered by a psycho in 2004).
Bobby was a real mover and shaker in those days with claiming horses as we old salts will remember. He totally moved up dozens and dozens of horses like Pataha Prince, Strong Award, Zanthe, No Turning, Special Price and there were so many more. I wish that I could recall others.
RIP Bobby.

good guy...a force of nature with so many little "quirky" rituals he reminded me of the baseball manager who would NEVER touch the foul line when walking back to the bench.

I knew this was coming. I still cannot beleive Bobby is gone. It's good he was able to come home. As I have said here before, Bobby was a good man...a brilliant trainer...but a good man with a kind heart. That in his last days on Earth, he was concerned about the horses he spent his life loving and careing for...well, that, and his passing brings tears to my eyes.
He is with all his beloved animals now and I pray he rests in peace...I'll cherish my memories and miss him.
In his name, I am donating money to Old Friends today...I hope some here can do the same, to honor the man.
Goodbye, Bobby.
RIP
