New EPA chief ready to take matters in a different direction

http://thehill.com/policy/energy-env...-environmental

“What has happened over the past several years, is the previous administration was so focused on climate change and so focused on CO2 that some of those other priorities were left behind,” he said.

“We as Republicans don’t have anything to be apologetic about with respect to the environment – nothing,” he added. “We have always believed that you can grow jobs, grow an economy, while also doing what? Being a good steward of the environment.”

At CPAC on Saturday, Pruitt reiterated his call to dismantle some of Obama’s environment regulations “in a very aggressive way,” and said that his first rollbacks could come next week.

“I think there are some regulations that in the near term need to be rolled back in a very aggressive way,” he said. “And I think maybe next week, you may be hearing about some of those, as it relates to some of these key issues.”

Go get 'em Scott.

I remember when I was a kid the shit used to run right from your toilet into the Mohawk River. How I've longed for a return to those simpler times.

No. It came from a watershed north of the city. As I recall there was not a treatment plant at the time. The pipes were old and there was a lot of decayed organic material (mostly leaves) and sometimes when the water came out it had a brownish tinge and small particles. When my grandparents visited from Brooklyn they brought their own water. The Mohawk was the wastewater receptical. Eventually the were required to build a wastewater treatment plant.

Without going to google, in what year and under which president was EPA created?

Yes, and the year was 1970. I only mention that because a lot of people think EPA has been around forever. I remember the first time they were going to destroy industry. It was when they required automakers to put catalytic converters on cars. The car industry was supposed to collapse as a result of the requirement. Eventually the EPA required the removal of lead from gasoline which allowed for wider adoption of catalytic converters.

42 years later the auto business is just fine. Just noting that sometimes things seem to work out.

The EPA had done some good but has had a negative impact on the economy... they have lost the original intent. Bloated on it's own fat. Lancing the boil they have become and draining it is good for the health of the country.

Not just that, but of all federal departments, they're the absolute worst. They're the ones with not-so-secret phony email accounts, the ones who crap in the halls, they travel much and work little, there's Animus River, nearly everything is excessive and poorly managed...and after eight years of The One, completely politicized and weaponized.

If Pruitt can clean up that mess, he will be a candidate for political sainthood. Good luck to him.
