The column on the left of PA's picks is the only one to use.
If his first pick is scratched, then the next horse to the right is used.
If the second pick is scratched, then the third horse is used.
In your own instance, your # 4 was the one on the left and it lost.

I don't put them in any order but will be out front with chasing that one to the wire. between the latter, four would be a better choice but the odds stink...Overall this would be an easy one to pass altogether. Also if ran back to previous form, that one would be coming at the wire as well.
Ralph S. a good friend reminded me all the time, "Don't ever think of a race as having a single winner as you will get frustrated and lose a lot of money. Shot gun them."
