Ramseys hit w/two civil suits

https://www.paulickreport.com/news/t...raining-bills/

Ward's suit seeks a court order to sell the horses named in his lien, with proceeds being applied to the unpaid balance, as well as any ongoing expenses from his day rate of $110.

Wards $110 day rate is the real crime

It's fun to see the sausage being made...or in this case, not being made.

It's always surprising to see certain people in this industry acting as deadbeats.

Usually not a good sign.

I agree. It's easier when you can just assume who the deadbeats are, but when the blinds get pulled it can feel disconcerting.

I wonder if he’s as patient on stud fees or stakes payouts

I was surprised Ward's lawsuit included trainer's share of purses, as I thought tracks send 10% of winning purses direct to the trainer. Is this not how it's done? Or perhaps Ward & Ramsey have a different % agreement & that's what is being contested?

Either way Ramsey's comments make him look like quite a dirt bag. Seems like he's been accused of this behavior for quite a number of years now.

the owner pays the trainer, and in some cases the trainer doesn't get the full 10%.

the jockey gets paid directly from the track though

I remember when Ken Ramsey was awarded an Eclipse Award for "Owner of the Year" but in the same year he was fined $25,000 and suspended for a time because he bribed another owner to scratch their horse so his AE horse could get in the race. Amazingly, the Turf Writers refused to rescind his award.

Jockeys automatically paid from purse winnings. Some tracks do automatically withhold the 10% and send to trainer but I think owners have option of opting out at most tracks. I think Oaklawn started this a few years back but don't remember.

Ramsey had always been rumored to be slow pay... Unbelievable with how big his operation is.

He says all the right things.

I forget what his regular business or source of wealth is?

Could Covid be part of the problem?

I'd imagine that he'll be hiring new trainers for his horses.
seems to me that's the only reason they would let the bill go for as long as they did. to keep the job.

I used to paint for a guy who always seemed to owe me $
every few weeks he'd pay me just enough, to keep coming to work.
In the end I never did get about $500 that I was owed.
it puts huge strains on a business relationship when $ isn't paid in a timely manner.

Im a small business operator as well.
I have always maintained that the most important challenge is finding work/clients..The next challenge is getting paid...on time....for the agreed amount.....in full....
Some people just don't give a rat's (behind)....

Is that to high or is it low?
I have no clue.
