90,000 + For Nebraska vs Omaha Volleyball Game
Live on the Big Ten network. Think this has got to be a once in a lifetime moment for these girls. Might set a attendance record for a women's sporting event.

Probably not the case but you never know these days. They keep trying to slam it down out throats, maybe this was a big push back. We got Megan Raphinoe in the SI Swimsuit Issue!

From a competition standpoint, absolutely nothing. It was partly fans wanting to be part of history and part wanting to pay tribute to a great college women's volleyball program.
Nebraska fans are pretty special when you consider that the football team has sold out every home game since November of 1962!

There's probably not much else to do in Omaha Nebraska, but participate in a stunt. Most of these people probably weren't paying attention to the game.

I wasn't going to go there. I have no idea if the "not much to do" in Nebraska talk is true as I have never even driven through the state.

You are right Dave. Other than setting an attendance record for most people ever to witness a live women's sporting event (I believe projected at 92k+) there really was no notable significance. The Huskers have an incredible girls V-Ball program and they are currently listed at about #4 on the national rankings. Their opponent (UNO) the Univ. of Nebraska at Omaha have been a Division 1 program for a short period of time. The game was held at Memorial Stadium at the University of Nebraska which is the football venue. It was cool to see something like that take place at my alma mater, but, you are spot on in terms of the general significance of the contest.

I stand corrected. The game was played in Lincoln, which is a fraction the size of Omaha. And there's even less to do there.

Given that their fans regularly fill the stands for every home volleyball match you grossly underestimate the interest of the fans. This "stunt" sold out quickly when the tickets went on sale.

I went to a football game in Lincoln. Before I got to Lincoln, there was farmland. Lots of farmland. I will say that the football fans there are among the friendliest and best that I've seen.

That's right, make me out as disparaging Nebraska. Obviously, if you enjoy attending power 5 sports, there's a ton to do in Lincoln. Football and basketball are 15 play dates, but if your interest expands to volleyball, wrestling, baseball, cross country, swimming, etc. there's plenty. If I lived near Lincoln I would totally support all the university sports. But, the notion that 92,000 fans want to see Nebraska play it's sister school in Omaha, is far fetched. If it wasn't for the stunt, you wouldn't get 5,000 people to show. It isn't even a conference game. And what else are people near Lincoln going to do that night to entertain themselves?
