Belmont continues to struggle timing turf races, or at least one of their two timing systems does. There are big differences between Trakus and the official timer. Yesterday it was on both courses, races 2, 3, and 4. Handicapping is hard enough without having to play "guess the right time"!

I'm late to the party, but the 2nd race at Pimlico on May 26th can't be right. 105.03 after a 5f split of 59.35?

Allegedly the "best" circuit out there, but they haven't figure out how to time races yet.
Sad.
Embarrassing.

It should be 1.06.03. This will be corrected. Thanks.

This is actually the best way to catch mistakes, looking at the incremental splits. It is sad to say, but the timing companies don't have the horse racing expertise to realize when they have a problem most of the time. Equibase hasn't implemented a system that can catch fat fingers like this either, which can easily be caught by the same methods.

I haven't actually, triple crown season and some personal stuff kept me pretty busy. The Belmont Day race won out over MNR 5.5f races. I will get to it by early next week.
I saw three from the race ran back last night, none particularly well, but they didn't look very good going in either.

Speaking of turf confusion. The 7th race at Laurel yesterday was reported as 1 1/16 miles on the turf with a 17 ft rail setting and a 35ft run-up. Today the 10th at Laurel was reported as about 1 1/16th miles on the turf with a 17ft rail setting and also a 35ft run-up. Do you have any idea what that's all about? One race being reported as 1 1/16 miles and one at about 1 1/16 miles?

I'll have to check out the replays, haven't got to Laurel yet. It is amazing the shit that goes on. All we need is two things, the actual distance and the actual times. It shouldn't be this difficult.

as near as i could tell they had the same rail/gate placement for both
pity the person that tries to make sense of the silliness that is turf racing these days, lol

This is my last post regarding MD racing. The 9th race at 5 1/2f on the grass at Laurel today. I understand the turf course is rock hard and very fast right now so sub 22 second fractions seem reasonable, and Uncle Youdge and Jarvis Steel are two very fast horses. I'm still a little unsure of the opening fraction of 21.13. According to equibase the run-up for that race is only 10 ft. Normally with a run-up that small you don't see 21 flat opening quarters. I may be totally wrong and maybe it's legit but that may be the fastest 1/4 mile I've ever seen with a run-up of only 10 feet.

Been saying that a long time. Equibase publishes what the track says the run up will be, not what it actually is.
