I actually saw something similar at a Costco in Covington, WA, a suburb of Seattle.
The funny thing is that minimum wage is actually the least of Seattle's woes. I am not going to hi-jack the thread about it, but all one really needs to do is use Google to learn about:
*A out of control city council led by a crazy socialist.
*A disgraced mayor who had to resign because of multiple allegations of child molestation.
*An out of control opoid problem. The decision point here is whether to allow safe injection sites for the addicts.
*An out of control homeless problem.
*City and county leaders who show zero leadership in solving the problem. The big question is whether to sweep homeless camps, or leave them alone and let the filth linger.
*A city council that wants to tax businesses and hold them accountable for building affordable housing.
*On it goes....
Freattle indeed. If you build it they will come. I moved out of the city in 2005. Best decision I ever made.
While I was typing this I heard an advertisement for the mayor's race. The candidates are so indistinguishable (yes democrats) that the ad touted the candidate as being the first openly gay female attorney, or something to that effect. It is just ridiculous. Why does it matter what one's sexuality is? Apparently in Seattle it does.

I don't think Seattle is alone.
I think all big cities are toilet bowls - man is not a species that gets along living with others of it's kind.
He is only civilized when not exposed to too many other people.

You just made a great case for merit-based immigration policy.

Those kiosks look like a great way to pick up various communicable diseases...I wonder how less healthy they are than handling money with an old-fashioned employee?
As for Seattle's mayor resigning, it's sad that the character bar for public officials is so low, but even sadder the despicable level required to be removed from office.
Liberal bad math is not limited to thinking minimum wage is a good idea - which is why you see the high taxes, lack of affordable housing, a surge in the homeless numbers, etc., all part of the big city experience....

The biggest difference between machines and people is the personality, good humor, compassion.
Humans will NEVER compete with machines!

Can you request a medium rare at McDonalds?
Machines are not taking over, but with hydraulics and computers, they sure can do more for longer periods than humans - there is just the cost issue.

Looks like you're correct.
Flippy the Robot only lasted a day at Cali Burger because the human workers couldn't keep up with the increased demand when customers came out in droves to see it in action, so the company suspended using the robot until the workers can be further trained to work with it.
The question is will Flippy now be eligible for unemployment insurance and an Obamaphone?

The greatest thing about where I live is that we'll be forever Red and people I don't like will never want to live here.
We are top 10 in IQ per any state.
We are top 10 in Unemployment rates
We are top 10 in people that enjoy their lives
Hey, you can live by the ocean all you want, but there is a grace and peace of having land around your ass. A lot of land. And being able to see it for miles and miles and miles. (And playing a championship level golf course in under 4 hours on almost any day is pretty spectacular.)
As a claustrophobic, driving down a country road with nothing but openness around you is exhilarating. You can breathe in the freshest of air, see the greatness of everything, and watch the sun rise and the stars glow. Not even a little ol' prairie dog can stop your stride.
