Pick 5 Base Minimum

Hello

What base minimum would you prefer for a Pick 5?

The current 50 cent base, or $1?

I would prefer to have a 50c base because it can help you with saving money over multiple races and pay less than $1 , but $1 base would cost more and pay more. Just my thought on it.

I used to prefer 50 cents but under the new tax laws I prefer one dollar.

I think this question is best suited for the pick-3. IMO...the pick-5's widespread popularity can be directly attributed to its 50-cent availability. Move the base price to $1 and the popularity of the wager will be reduced by 80%.

Pick 3 used to be a great bet, now it is terrible and I think the low minimums are the main culprit. Not all of course, but they don't help.

The low minimum on the p3 coupled with the low takeout for the p5 make that choice a no brained, especially when you have a single in the sequence.

Agree and disagree. I think it made the all play easier for people and can lower pay outs that way. But is still a good bet on occasion. I played one today starting in race #3 at GPW. 4x4x1. Hit the longest shot on the board in the first leg, waiting for the second leg to go off. Thing about the $8.00 ticket is that I singled a 20/1 in the last leg.

If you are a good handicapper, you probably prefer high minimums.

But if you are a track executive, you probably prefer low minimums.

BTW, the trend in gambling is towards low minimums. For instance, penny slots have made a big time comeback in Vegas. Of course, 99 percent of players play for more than a penny. But you can play for a penny if you want to on many machines. Low minimums entices casual players to take a stab.

For p3 keep dollar min.

I rarely play Woodbine but for those who do, how do the .20 mins work out?

If some payouts go down doesn't that mean others go up?

Yes, the chalky ones. But most people aren't playing horizontals to catch all the logical ones.

Agree 100%. In the 90s, the pic 3 was my favorite bet. Now I rarely play it anymore.

50 cents for pick 5; $1 for pick 4 & pick 3.

The thing is, that's a great insight about human psychology but it is also describing highly irrational behavior.

I mean, let's be clear here- is the goal to make a long-term profit by exposing inefficiencies in the betting pool, or is the goal to gambolll and hope to make a big score?
