This happened to me some time ago for an online contest for Saratoga. Was busy doing something else and a horse I had happened to like was listed as scratched, and without loading the live feed, I change my selection.

Come to find out later on that the "scratched" horse won and paid $25 to win.

The 6 flipped in the gate and was late scratched but someone mistakenly took out the 2, but within one minute or so, the 2 came back on the odds board you see on TV and ran. I was always under the impression that if a horse comes out it can't be put back in, but in this case it was.
