If this woman was 17-18-19 I could maybe understand. But she was pushing 30. Come on man...now I look like a bad guy because I'm harping on the smoking when she subsequently died in jail.
BUT, you keep pounding this point for some reason, and I can't fathom how you think it's reasonable that she be allowed to do whatever she wishes after being pulled over.

And I can't fathom how you can't comprehend that all this drama occurred AFTER she produced her DL IS and REG and the cop ran her plates and DL# and she was clean.THEN she lights a cigarette and the cop orders her to put it out and you think the cop is "just doing his job".Astonishing.

You can't control others nearly as well as you can control yourself. You're right. Both parties could have followed that maxim in this case.

I never posted anything like your last line...I never praised or condemned the cop...all I know is you don't go off on a cop just because he asks you to put your cig out.
Common sense goes a long way towards keeping yourself out of trouble.

Putting out the cigarette was a very reasonable request, just asked my neighbor cop who told me the risk of that cigarette being jammed into an officer's eye, or having his skin burnt are real, and he ALWAYS tells some one he comes into contact with to put it out.

As shown by wisconsin's post, there is a legitimate reason for the request.

Looks like from the video it was she that started out with an attitude, not the cop. Sometimes when you don't follow simple instructions and have a bad attitude, shit happens.
Btw, she tried to kill herself in 2014. She has a history therefore of of suicide attempts. Her family wants the public to believe however she was murdered while in custody. Yeah, right. Good luck with that.
Throw race out and this entire incident would be little league bullshit compared to serious crime issues in the country. Almost too bad that she wasn't a white male redneck, we wouldn't have to hear about it for the next 2 years.

Getting into a power struggle with a law officer is not a wise move at any time.

Common sense does not exist anymore in this country (in most cases). What's common to a true normal human being rarely exists anymore as most people were not raised to be normal human beings. It's a shame. Crap like this happens because of that.
A bit of common sense goes a long way, this and most other crap would've been avoided.

Exactly....
She never watched texas chainsaw massacre or any scary movies of the south?
Zero common sense, at least with that move.

from what I saw in that video I think a career change will be good for him.

Having watched the video, I'm gonna have to agree. This cop strikes me as a Barney Fife type, who became a cop because of all the times he got beat up in high school.
Could the woman have handled the situation better? Sure.
But there was no reason for things to escalate as they did, and that's on the cop. He's supposed to be a professional.

How about a cogent argument for why a situation like that needed to escalate to that extent. The cop is one with the authority. He's supposed to control things not go off on someone who was clearly not a threat.
BTW, how's Silver doing? You're very confident for a guy who's always wrong.
