Horseplayers: A Very Important Story For All

I think everyone that has even a passing interest in the game as a player needs to read this brilliant piece of writing by Ryan Conley.

Thanks, Ian.

I think if you can follow all of the twists and turns involved in this morass, you should consider becoming a hedge fund manager.

I was in a previous life. I ran a small high yield fixed income fund for a couple of trading desks.

That was way easier than being in the ADW business.

If the horsemen are serious about changing the economic landscape this would seem to be a pretty good time to make a stand.

Just bet a million a year and you'll count too.

WOW!

"If things hold course, CDI’s Twinspires.com platforms and MEC’s XpressBet.com won’t have rights to the Churchill meet. Competitors TVG and Youbet.com weren’t likely to have the meet anyway, since they have been at odds with TrackNet since the joint venture was formed in March 2007. Neither TVG nor Youbet, which combined reported handle figures of $10.2 million on the 2006 Derby card, had access to the Churchill signal in 2007."

This is unthinkably beautiful. Bob Evans gets a Colonoscopy with a scope covered with sharp metal filings OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God Bless you Ian, things are coming your way

THG

I said recently in another post, in my opinion that HORSEMEN HAVE TOO MUCH POWER! Here's just another example of it in this BLOODHORSE article.

Not all horsemen groups are bullheaded like the THG though. Some horsemen groups I've noticed are real ADW-friendly and are PRS, as in the word PRINCES. As for the THG, some would say they appear to be another kind of (censored) .

And as usual when there is bickering amongst racetracks and horsemen groups on revenue sharing, ADW signals etc., there is no mention or concern for the bettors...tsk! tsk!

I wonder if this stalement continues, whether the belligerent THG will be happy with an additonal 3 % of nothing if there is no racing, or if there is a big drop in wagering at some tracks.

Wouldn't it make more sense to start negotiations with the 'end in mind'? ...i.e. a successful settlement and go from there. How about some addtional tips:

1. Next, tell each other what the different parties agree on.

2. I'm assuming another good negotiating ploy would be to listen to what the other parties concerns are.

3. How about considering what's good for the customers?... a.k.a. the bettors.

4. Have some give and take. Remember the univeral law again...."GIVE AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE".

5. How about bringing in William Shatner in to negotiate a settlement?
(I know, I know I've been watching too many PRICELINE.COM commercials).

--Remember THG..."demanding something... or else" in my opinion, is not a very wise negotiating tactic.

Signals as a weapon

I dont pretend to know all the interests here. I do know this.

Bob Evans was the first to use signal witholding as a WEAPON of mass disruption.

Now it appears much easier for everyone to turn these weapons back on him.
Thats why I hope THG stands pat. I couldnt bet the Derby last year and I dont care if anyone does.

I am playing poker the weekend of the 26th......... I might have to start looking for more poker opportunities.

Still, the most important group of people in the whole damn puzzle (the players) go on unrepresented. If there was ever a time for horseplayers group..........this is it. I can't believe this shit is still going on.............

We are actually very lucky that they allow us to bet on races.

If it was up to horsemen, they would raise the track takeout 10% all of which went to them in order to solve this problem.

Uh Pony ... that would have been TVG, not Bob Evans. They even tried to hold the Breeders' Cup hostage.

I'm not a fan of exclusivity by either side, but TVG was playing this game long before Evans signed on at Churchill.
