Anyone play the dogs?

I understand this is a horse racing site but do any of you guys play the dogs or know of a forum like this for the greyhounds? I have looked but can't find a good one.

I played the dogs for years and years. I could see the end coming for greyhounds years ago and switched to thoroughbreds. We used to have five dog tracks in Colorado, now we have none.

That said, I know of no greyhound racing forums. The software I used to use had a forum for users, but I think he went out of business. Shame because it was a good product.

Update: I just went to his site, Dogbase, and he is CLOSED.

Handicapping And Wagering Greyhounds (HAWG Forum) has been going on Delphi for over 10 years. Check it out. Free and mostly non commercial. Yes it's gotten very tough for dog racing over this past decade... thanks in part, to the horse people.

I bet Derby Lane a couple times a month, although I do not give them nearly as much attention as I do the horses. I only bet the Grade A races and approach them from a purely statistical point of view.

The only greyhound forum I know that deals exclusively with handicapping is HAWG, but there is not a whole lot of activity there and I get the impression it might not be open much longer. There are, however, a lot of old threads you can browse through and there are two or three members that still make regular posts and will very likely answer any questions you might have.

Are they still running?

Spent some of my misspent youth shuffling between Turf Paradise & Phoenix Greyhound Park.

I played the dogs exclusively in the late 70's and early 80's when living in FL. Moving to VA ended that and I became reacquainted with horse racing.

I hate seeing dog racing go so far downhill and am concerned that horse racing is heading in the same direction for many of the same reasons.

If I lived in a state that made both available, I would probably play the dogs as it was easier for me to find value and I was definitely more proficient with them than the horses.

That is far from a misspent youth!

I was in Phoenix a few years ago and went to both places.

There used to be a slew of Greyhound tracks in New England, but most of them are closed now.

The liberal do-gooders in Massachusetts outlawed it -- by general election vote -- and it died in Connecticut and Vermont (a neat little place in the southwest corner of the state, not too far from Saratoga).

There were three tracks in New Hampshire in the early 90s, and I believe that only Seabrook (along Interstate 95) is still open.

I had a lot of fun at Wonderland in East Boston in the early 90s.

Off and on, I've spent 35 years between Turf Paradise and Greyhound park (old and new greyhound park).

The problem for both of them is ARIZONA.

The only state that would place their dog racing facility in a neighborhood where no one dares go (unarmed) after sunset -- then offer evening racing and no admission charge so every vagrant ends up using the place as a temporary domicile and sits around on the floor drinking from a bag. Similar to Port Authority bus station in NYC during the 60's.

The only state that has legalized horse racing (TUP) that does not allow ADW internet wagering.

One of the only states that does not allow casino action dove-tailed to racing facilities.

The only state that had a chance to add a new casino in the Westgate area next to the Cardinals football stadium and had it shot down by the governor -- and it would have added 6,000+ jobs when all said and done with the piggy back establishments.

It may be time for me to move back to CA.

We must have bumped into each other back then numerous times and not even known it....

I spent a day at Wonderland. My wife hasn't forgiven me yet.
