The move to Churchill will prevent the focus of all BC coverage from being the safety of the track. It will also prevent a disaster scenario where they run at SA, a horse breaks down, and they get blamed for not moving it.

But there's a breakdown or two every Breeders Cip no matter where it's held.

California Doesn't need the Breeders Cup? Tell that to the Hotels and restaurants.

For a couple of years in a row it was a bloodbath.
We called it the BLEEDERs Cup.

Not at all. Our hotels make boatloads and will continue to.

We are a tourist juggernaut and paradise on earth. We don't need any once in every few years event to rake in money.

The word is June 27th will be the answer we are looking for. I am pretty sure it is moving to CD as their hotel rates for that Breeders' Cup weekend are now suddenly triple.

I hope not

I didn't go to Louisville last year, why would I want to go this year?

I hope they refund tickets if that's the case.

I would be surprised if it doesn't land at another TSG track to head off any lawsuit from the TSG, but moving it to CD would be a signal to me that the industry doesn't approve of the TSG's handling of the issue at SA

The taxes are the price we pay for living in paradise. As for the rest, not really. We lead the nation in sunshine, laid-back people, culture, high and low, entertainment, and tourism.

Once upon a time, we also led the nation in horse racing attendance. Alas, that's not true anymore. But we will still be a great state even if the sport has to go elsewhere.

I am 100 percent sure that if they move the event, even to Del Mar, they would offer a ticket refund to anyone who can't come.

I am not privy to the BC contracts, but I have seen event siting contracts for other big events. And they almost always contain specific clauses that permit the event promoters to re-site the event for a wide variety of reasons, including bad publicity or safety concerns. If the BC has competent lawyers (and they do), those provisions will be in their contracts with SA.

There may be an issue of compensation for whatever steps SA did to prepare for the BC, but that's just a money issue, and money issues are easily worked out.
