Exactly. You do get a feeling for when they are not real keen on the sequence, stuff like "tricky" or "chalky", "no singles in this sequence".

Mike Tirico is great. He's a perfect example of a sports commentator who learns everything in detail instead of just half-assing his job while waiting for NFL season to roll around.
Nick Luck has the British charm and wit, plus he provides great insight into the individual horses.
Donna Brothers gives you the jockey's point of view without blustering like Jerry Bailey.

On one weekday afternoon, Rich Perloff in the Handicapsule, was doing Turf Paradise. After about three races where all his picks bombed he said: “Note to self, don’t play Turf Paradise.”

When Bode Express threw Johnny V in the Preakness. During the inquiry Randy Moss said : "The Track will probably refund the tickets"
I get that he is filling time while the inquiry plays out and words can just tumble out. Still , I'm not sure about him.

If he thought the starter was at fault, and the stewards agree, then yes, they would have refunded the tickets.
Sounds like he was pretty sure the starter held the horse too long and gave him an unfair start which ultimately led to the debacle with JV on the ground.

Tirico is a professional broadcaster who,no matter the event, format, etc.gives the viewers his best effort.
Tirico is well read, does his homework and is not part of the club of 'shameless self promoters".
To fill pout my trifecta, Laffit Pincay III Great pipes( broadcasting term), good looks, does his homework and doesn't come across as though he's thinking the audience needs to be spoon fed every aspect of horse racing. Such as "folks, a horse wears shoes because..."
I'll give a nod to Donna Brothers because she is able to give the viewers a rider's perspective without being too wordy.
Honoroable mention goes to Eddie Olcyck. Former NHL player and current analyst for NBC's NHL coverage, Olcyck is a good handicapper. Gives his picks and unlike many others in his position, explains WHY he made the picks but more importantly, he also BETS the picks he gives to the viewers.

Didnt look at the poll, nor care, i guess I can start a new thread and ask rather than lump it in here where it seemed to make sense. Just remember him on the broadcasts.

Only time I think he has been on this year that I remember was during that night card at Churchill for the Foster.

Eddie O. hit a pick 6 about 10 years ago for $500,000 on about a $150 ticket. Horseplayer magazine wrote a nice story about it.
