Microsoft is paying millions to developers to switch to Windows Phone apps.
Severe shortage of good programmers/developers from what I read.
only the largest markets are going to be getting apps for the foreseeable future if you ask me. Horse Racing doesn't fit in that category

I had a personal app written and installed on my android to give it a test run to find out that the type of zip file that brisnet uses will not open on the android (maybe it's all zip files but I never tested it out) using the default phone settings (my fault for just testing the comma delimited file on the emulator), so I scratched it for now because I couldnt get it to open with ASTRO file manager either.
However if someone wants to try something out I would be willing to try and work with them to see if their application (or a simplified version for starters) will work well on it. I would just have to figure out the zip file situation if your data would come in a zip file.
It may be a long process to try and get it completed though as due to work demands and not a lot of extra time in the evenings at this time I can't guarantee any work time on it.

I process BRIS data files to end up with HTML files, which can be accessed from all of the top smart phones.

Microsoft can pay what they want but their phones will never be a success. The Kin disaster sunk them kids don't forget.
Android doesn't need approval to market an app so an independent developer has the best chance to make money quicker going that route.
Trackmaster has a nice little app where you can predict exactas and tri's that I use once in a while. For something they didn't put a bunch of work in (my hunch) it comes well within 20% most of the time.
If it was legal to even bet dimes or quarters on a horse racing app game my hunch is that it would be a huge success with the younger crowd. Just think they could get some enjoyment passing the time for a buck or so.

As much as I wish this were true you just have to look at Xbox to see that it isn't always the case. They sunk tons of money into it and sold the boxes at a loss. It took a long time but now they are a major player. Maybe it won't work out that way with Bing, Zune, and their phone offerings.
As for an android app, I hope the market goes the way of jquerymobile. Make your app once and it works on all smart phones. It's still early development but that's what has my attention for now.

Windows Phone 7 is getting very good reviews and many are jumping on the bandwagon. As usual, MSFT is behind the curve, but lots of good reviews.
btw, only 500-1000 kins were even sold. That will not taint the market at all.
So few it's Not even on the radar.

If I remember correctly, Robin Howlett (thorobasePA here at PA I think) tweeted about having Thorobase running on his android phone.
I've been playing with the android platform a bit as well (my girlfriend was laughing at me walking around the house looking at my phone seeing I had the gps functions of the phone working). For now though, I'm spending more time using media queries to get better mobile layouts for html pages.

I have an archos 101 with android 2.2 installed. It has flash 10.1 and I'm able to watch the races from Santa Anita with no problems. I print out the card from my program to a pdf and I'm able to view it on the tablet with the pdf app. It's really a great tablet. Got it on amazon for $314 and that was with next day shipping!

Making financial decisions (like betting) from a copious amount of data and factors to consider from a small screen sounds like a bad idea. And a good way to quickly go myopic.

Who says you have to be limited to "copious" amounts of information?

The archos 101 has a 10.1 inch screen so it's far from a small screen.

I can work with 10 but anything less ain't worth the eye strain.
You got a nice deal on the 101 for that price.
