The theory is that people could stop by the track after a day on the beach, or before going out for dinner or whatever that night. In reality, it's probably just to have a shorter card and still offer the agreed-upon number of racing dates.

I get it now........after reading your last sentence. I have rarely played there but had a meeting near Sam Houston yesterday and was thinking of stopping in for a few races right in this time frame.

My meeting ended up canceling on me........

Thanks to all for the info!

I believe the minimum number of racing dates is 6. Monmouth will run about 60. Not positive about the min but that is what AC used to run to maintain simulcast license.

Monmouth has said in past that it seeks to run a certain number of races/week- about 30 I believe. So they'd run 6 on Fri and 12 on Sat/Sun. Also someone mentioned to me that the timing also dovetails nicely with the start of many Eastern time baseball games, so maybe you get some crossover to the sports book.

Also- if anyone ever makes a trip to Monmouth- adjacent to the track (just across interior road) is the Blu Grotto. The restaurant is ok although I rarely go there (or anywhere else). To me the real allure is the 1st floor beer garden, which is beautiful, has betting machines and a large screen TV, and attracts some pretty good local bands.
