Joe Bravo is the King of Monmouth, well respected by everyone....

He knows this is a bad rule, as this decision will cause the complete demise of Monmouth Park.

I agree, it is called positive encouragement. I think the owner and trainer are the ones who should make those calls exclusively. When the game has been changed completely from the days of Seabiscuit, Man of War, and Secretariat it is time to stick a fork in it for being done.

There are owners and trainers who love limited and no whip racing also. Good horsemen and horsewomen can easily condition a horse to give all they have without being pushed past exhaustion or forced to carry on when sore. Many like the idea of sound horses able to have longer racing careers.

If you read what I posted, I think the owner and trainer are the ones who should make those calls exclusively. Not hacks!

If I had to guess I would expect the performances to be a bit more consistent with the new rule. It will take time IMO but the horses should settle to a new individual level. The tryhards will continue to try hard and the ones who really need the encouragement to stretch late will be your new batch of hangers. As far as betting goes I think you'll be fine but I can see why many of the riders will probably hate it.

Will be interesting to see how the "fixed-odds wagering" inititive is implemented.

Yes he is but he is from my era where we did more hand riding. It was considered wimpy to go for the whip when in a hand riding stretch dual.

Old dogs comment was pointed at this eras jocks who don’t even bother to gather a horse up before they strike, causing the horses to veer all over down the stretch.

Saturday's card was pretty good (of course I missed it) and also featured the annual pick your prize contest which included Mth races only. Some nice spice Sunday with the carryovers! Good luck
Comps today terrible v 6/15/19 (Saturday before Fathers' Day). Today's total handle $3.3M v $4.7M 6/15/19. Why? Prob because on 6/15/19 CD ran at night. GP was $7.9 in 2019 v $7.3 2021 even though sloppy/off turf in 2019 probably due to CD's night card. Belmont was $16.6 2021 v. I don't know 2019 because I didn't feel like adding up the race-by-race numbers.

I'm curious to see what Monmouth handles on Haskell Day this year. It goes up against opening Saturday of the Saratoga and Del Mar summer meets and the Meadowlands Pace is the same day (at night).

Another dismal comp to 2019. Off track about $3.5m this year v $4.5m 2019. On track crowd was about half 2019 and handle was about $580k v $850k. Didn’t help that they seemed to run on top of Belmont all day!

GP was $4.8m v $5.0m. Ran 2 more races in 2019 and were sloppy/off so a decent comp for them. Pim/LRL seemed comparable. I didn’t add up the CD figs

Took a quick look. Looks like their total market share was about 7.8% this year compared to compared to 9.5% in 2019. Ran one less race this year but their average field size was up over 1 this year (about 7 compared to slightly over 8).

I don't follow their numbers closely, but would imagine going from an average field of 7 to 8 should have moved the needle. Avg handle per BI down significantly.
