The money is going to start drying up in short order imo. NBC had to start off its Derby coverage discussing the breakdowns, and it had to do the same 2 weeks later at the Preakness. It's teetering on the edge of a death spiral imo.

You'll never stop breakdowns...always been happening since the dawn of the horse.
Thus, what are you saying exactly? All of a sudden people are learning horses break down in racing? This isn't a new phenomenon.
So if the money is "going to start drying up," it's not because of the subject of this thread.

I don't know how anyone can think that the status quo is okay and that we are doing all we can, but yes, there always will be breakdowns
Dirt racing probably is slightly riskier, but the biggest reason of course is our allowing injury masking drugs (duh)

The reason imo is that horse racing looks for any rationale to not ban trainers, vets, or horsemen and to pin it on a "bad step"
Horses don't take bad steps on a well-maintained track

I think this is a cheap, weak excuse to avoid a serious discussion. Not wanting to watch horses snap their legs on a racetrack isn't "woke", it's having some respect for the animal and trying to improve a fixable issue.

Amazing how much everyone knows about this when no scientigic evidence has been gathered yet, but obvos;y, Baffert drugged the horse, the track was not safe, and both CD and PIM should be immediately shut down due to unsafe tracks conditions. Let me know when the serious discussion starts.
