I should mention Vegas is nicer now. I remember the $1.99 breakfast special in Toucan Hatry's in the Stardust. It was cheap but also ratty. Now Vegas is expensive but also opulent.

Desert Inn was fabulous in the 70's

I found the Ceasers sport book very nice. They offered me tickets for every race bet good for up to a $16 drink. Not a big drinker but had a couple.

Back in the day I loved the Stardust. They always took great care of me.

Nowadays I hang at the Venetian. Really good noodle shop next to the book.

My problem was that they gave out drink tickets but had had poor service for those with drink tickets. I paid the $9.

My son in law found that if he gave the girl 5 bucks each time she brought a beer he never had to look for her.

I spent the racing day at the Encore today...in order to investigate this matter further. I wagered on 7 races, never betting more than $40 on a single race...and the teller offered me a drink ticket every time I bet. When I finally accepted the last offer, and the server was sent to me...the teller told her that I could have all the drink tickets I want. So, I ask: should I investigate this matter further?

I used to go to Vegas all the time but it's not what it used to be. I had not been in a about eight years and decided to go two summers ago before Saratoga opened. I had never stayed downtown so I thought I would give it a shot. I stayed at the Fremont, old hotel but good enough for me.

I had a blast. Played ponies all morning and afternoon, then hit the bars and restaurants within walking distance. Saw great live music and Freemont street had so much going on 24 hours a day.

There were four different casinos within 100 yards and some really cool spots to drink, eat and catch music.

I have stayed in most of the nice hotels, been comped like crazy in the old days, not so much anymore, but I enjoyed my stay downtown a lot more.

My bride and I always go to the California Hotel when we are there to eat some "local grindz" from Hawaii. We really look forward to it.
