HTR Software

Hello,

I would like to ask if anyone on the website is having success with the software HTR. I am thinking about giving it a try.

I highly recommend it.
THere is so much there, you an use 10% of it and do well.
You can get a free demo to try.

Along with the program, you get comma file for every chart, every race, every track included. You get a bunch of export files you can use to build a database. One you join, you get 6 weeks past data. so you can have a functional DB up and running on day 1.

Aside from the main program, there is a velocity based program that features a modeling section with tons of bells and whistles.

You can ease in toit, using thing you already know, say Sartin/Brohamer style velocity. Add in new things as you read about them. Jim Cramer speed figs are included in the PPs - of which there are several versions.

THere is a robot program - which allows you to do the same research Ken did for Barry Meadows book, and build spot plays.

Robot is ideal to learn all there is to know about a new track in 20 minutes.

I was a member of HTR since 2003-4 (I've given up capping since the beginning of the year, so I let my membership lapse). I fully endorse Tom's view on HTR...by far the most comprehensive package I've ever run into!

A few tips:

1. Ken Massa is owner/proprietor, and is as nice and approachable as anyone I've ever talked to. Any problems with his product is handled immediately; any questions are promptly (like, same day) answered. The guy's a jewel.

2. The program suite is very comprehensive, and does come with a learning curve. Wade, don't jump, in! Give yourself some time with it. You can easily find one of the modules that will mesh with your current handicapping methodology (and probably enhance it); start there, and add more things as your understanding matures. Ken is very approachable; if you plan on giving 6 months/a year to working with HTR, ask him if he'd be willing to give you a month free to get comfortable with it...he'll probably say yes.

3. Tom covers a lot of the features very well in his post to you; but there's so much to the program that it's easy to get overwhelmed. Take it slow and easy!

4. HTR has a kickass bulletin board that's very well supported with a ton of information from the membership. It's well worth checking out (and searching it for prior information)

5. Be sure to download all the PDF's from the HTR website. The newsletters and handicapping articles contain a gold mine of useful information.

It's the best software I ever used. I cannot recommend it enough!

Good luck and best wishes on your journey!

Mike

I’ve been using it about 3 years now...I have nothing but good things to say about HTR. I’m a bit of a periodic player, sometimes skipping months at a time, but I still download HTR data even during my breaks. This allows me to step right back in, check my spot plays, and handicap a card quickly.

The Robot module was one of the last things I got into, and it’s one of the best so far. The amazing ability to do research with literally hundreds of variables from any track in North America. The Robot generates and save spot plays you’ve set up, filtered, researched. Again as a periodic player i’m able to run my spot plays the robot, go back and check win percentage and ROI, find if they’re still “hot”, and find plays across the country that I can then further handicap and research.

If that’s not enough and you’re a data freak like myself, massive amounts of data can be exported, imported into your favorite data program like MS-Access, with hundreds and hundreds of variables for you to do. Database Templates are available online for subscribers. Results data too...

Good advice above, to “wade” into the program rather than jump in feet first. It’s overwhelming at first and even a bit confusing. But once you start picking which options fit your style of handicapping, it’s pure gold.

Oh...and the library of free Newsletters and e-books (small extra charge for some e-books) is beyond comparison.

And hey...you can try is a few months for a few hundreds dollars...you haven’t bought any software only data downloads, and walk away if you don’t like it. Unlikely!

P.S. strong agreement on positive Ken Massa comments above..hands on guy he does a great job.

Just want to reinforce what the posters above have said about HTR. And that it will take you a little while to figure out how to use it best. It's a weapon, a tool, not a black box and the users deploy them differently. I wouldn't say the spot plays are a gold mine -- its tough to find ones that stand up over time -- but the Robot database is great for spotting trends or even checking up on trainer and jockey records.

The best part of it is that it lays out what you need to handicap a race in graphical ways that are easy to grasp. There are plenty of tools and its up to you to decide the ones that work best for you.

Will it turn a losing player into a winning one? Cant promise that, but it will certainly help.

I was introduced to HTR by the track handicapper at little Hastings Park. Pondered which of two systems I landed on, went the other way out of convenience, NOT that this system was less worthy.

In Toronto, a fellow in the front office at Woodbine (transfer from the Maryland Jockey Club) used the system and we often compared readouts....I liked the way he was able to adapt it to the specific needs of one track or another (like HSH does as well).

One of the great things about HTR is the feedback from users (just like HSH) goes into enlightening the entire group of users and update are often available based upon many of those new ideas from the user.

Can't go wrong with this system...

Hey 46. Nice to see you again. Do you still use the Sartin programs as your main handicapping tool?

No I moved on since I found, over time, some glaring voids in the continued use of that exclusively...I learned a lot from them as a foundation for comprehension of pace analysis, but there were deficits that could not be overcome, ALSO the use of single pace lines was ALWAYS a problem of ongoing sample error.

I found that Dave's HSH program added the missing pieces and that is what I now use daily....Also the follow up from his on line seminars continue to allow a wider use of the program as I learn more about it.

It allowed me to bet vertical exotics with confidence, a idea I would have wholly rejected when I was using Sartin alone.

I'm a bit confused. What system are you talking about? I thought HTR was handicapping software.

My final choice of software was between HTR and HSH and I chose the latter. BOTH are good.
