This is the kind of President I hoped for. Someone who steps outside normal tradition and tries something different with North Korea.
They've wanted us to talk to them for years, and I don't know why Obama never tried. George W Bush certainly wasn't going to try. Bill Clinton came close.
Finally, President Trump opens dialogue.

I guess Trump decided to hang around for a little while.
Seems some foundation was laid... course no sanction reduced till verifiable actions on NK happen.
A true Leader that's what President Trump is.

Before everyone here spikes the football it's pretty important to note that nothing was actually accomplished here.
No future date was set.
We agreed to suspend joint operations.
The North Koreans agreed to... not much.
I'm not crapping over what's happened yet but the dear leader praise should probably slow down a bit. It was a joint statement issued with no plan of action.
Unlike a different nuclear deal that had lots of actual stipulations.
Kim got what he wanted this round... wait for round 2... if there is one.

It's now appearing Trump went waaay off script with his suspension of war games stuff... Pompeo now in damage control mode.
We got nothing out of this except a reaffirmation of the Panmunjon Declaration while agreeing to suspend operations with allies. No NTBT or NPT from North Korea. No future talks set just the promise of them...
Big photo op.

Joint Statement
Quote:
"President Donald J. Trump of the United States of America and Chairman Kim Jong Un of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a first, historic summit in Singapore on June 12, 2018.
President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un conducted a comprehensive, in-depth, and sincere exchange of opinions on the issues related to the establishment of new U.S.-DPRK relations and the building of a lasting and robust peace regime on the Korean Peninsula. President Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK, and Chairman Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
Convinced that the establishment of new U.S.-DPRK relations will contribute to the peace and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula and of the world, and recognizing that mutual confidence building can promote the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un state the following:
1. The United States and the DPRK commit to establish new U.S.-DPRK relations in accordance with the desire of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity.
2. The United States and the DPRK will join their efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.
3. Reaffirming the April 27, 2018 Panmunjom Declaration, the DPRK commits to work towards complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
4. The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains, including the immediate repatriation of those already identified.
Having acknowledged that the U.S.-DPRK summit -- the first in history -- was an epochal event of great significance and overcoming decades of tensions and hostilities between the two countries and for the opening of a new future, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un commit to implement the stipulations in this joint statement fully and expeditiously. The United States and the DPRK commit to hold follow-on negotiations led by the U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and a relevant high-level DPRK official, at the earliest possible date, to implement the outcomes of the U.S.-DPRK summit.
President Donald J. Trump of the United States of America and Chairman Kim Jong Un of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have committed to cooperate for the development of new U.S.-DPRK relations and for the promotion of peace, prosperity, and security of the Korean Peninsula and of the world.

It may surprise some on here but here is my official reaction to the summit:
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It wasn't good or bad but it was a start.
Its pretty obvious that real tangible agreement is quite a long ways off since the joint statement issued was extremely vague. Nothing was really accomplished aside from opening channels of communication and the possibility of further talks.
In a perfect world the North Koreans would have agreed to do something specific in return for something specific from the United States. I suggested signing the NTBT and/or NPT. They don't really apply in this case but its a start. Additionally, a concrete commitment to talks in the future. IE Time and Place.
It didn't happen because obviously we are quite far apart still which is fine so you issue the vague joint statement and move on.
The only mistake the President made in these talks so far was the suspension of joint military efforts with our allies in the region. I posted the video and it certainly appears that was off-script. The reason why its a mistake is because you just issued a SUPER VAGUE statement on purpose... to allow room to maneuver. You don't make that statement and then publicly give away a VERY SPECIFIC concession.
They may have talked about it privately but its not in the statement so saying that publicly was a mistake.
Other than that not much was accomplished. It may end up leading to something great or may end up fizzling out into nothing. Its obvious we aren't close right now and that's fine these things take time. So...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Unless someone has some specific thing the North Koreans agreed to as a result of the summit.

We are quite far apart on the things that we supposedly agreed to. Trump and Kim agreed in principle to the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. As far as we know, there was essentially no discussion of any details.
Denuclearization is in the eye of the beholder. To Trump, that presumably means the North turning over its nukes and opening its facilities for inspection.
To Kim, that means the US pulling its military presence and weapons out of the South.
Any bets on which happens first?

Right now...? Neither.
If you take both sides at face value its obvious that we can't agree on where to start or that would have been accomplished here.
Just a starting point. Perhaps this sit down will come to be that starting point but right now its simply just a sit down.
The heavy lifting is going to fall to Pompeo now.

Once we get that done, we can work on Dakota and Carolina.
We need to heal at home, too.
And what about West Virginia? No East Virginia? What happened there?
Did Delaware swallow it up at night?
And New Mexico - a problem waiting to happen. Change that one!
I remember when East and West Germany reunited - it was great, until they decided on a new capital.....PARIS!

What the North Koreans wanted is having their regime legitimized by a photo op hungry narcissist who would show up without extracting any real concessions. It would help if they could open a split in our our alliance with the South Koreans by having the entirely unprepared doofoid suggest we are going to stop joint military exercises. To save money.
All the other administrations you mentioned wouldn't do that because they weren't led by a President who simply won't read briefings any more complicated than the crawl at the bottom of a TV screen.
Canada bad. North Korea misunderstood and needing understanding.
What the **** happened to you people?
