Christie has signed the bill. Betting begins Oct 26. at Monmouth Park. Yes, the injunctions will likely come, but the legal basis for them is no slam dunk anymore.
Game on.

Christie also stopped jersey,s challenge to the federal injuctoin because it is now moot.
Jersey repealed its sport betting laws regarding and per the appeals court have contoured its sports betting laws to the way the state wants it.
Will be hard to get a permanent injuction in any court based upon that.

Great news. Kudos to Monmouth for being on the forefront of the sports betting push. If only my 4 year wait for exchange wagering could receive similar good news.

Oct 26th?
Is Monmouth going to be the only place in NJ that's offering betting?

Good question. I would imagine that the legislation names racetracks and casinos as the places where sports bets can be offered, Monmouth will eventually have "friends" in the business.
One thing I do wonder is whether or not bets on games involving the three NJ based pro teams will be permitted. I do remember when Nevada casinos did not offer lines on UNLV or U of Nevada games.

Oh I read the few comments on northjersey.com's facebook page. A few whiny assed Jersyites who believe sports betting is going to ruin civilization itself and of course how pissed off they are at Christie.
Same old tired NIMBY crap. NJ has to be in the top five of having the highest percentage of miserable chronic complainers.

Let me assure you that every state plenty of them. NJ can't be in the top five or SW would have never passed. In Nebraska, we can't even get those slot machines that play old races because of them.

It actually encourages it by taking after tax dollars out of hands of consumers and giving it back to politicians and bureaucrats.
This is why gambling is not the answer to a state's fiscal woes. Sure, Vegas makes it work but that's because most of the money comes from tourists.

It's one thing to take a position for or against SW but I don't get the animosity against those who want it. Everyone on here knows my position but I truly hope they are successful in this endeavor.
If they ever get it where the wagers could be done on phone and computer it will be a very significant revenue stream. I still don't see a person like me who lives fifteen miles from monmouth taking a ride there to wager on football. Maybe they will comp some betters to make them feel its worth it but I don't even know if that would be legal or not in NJ.
I can't see more than a handful of people from MY paying tolls and gas to drive down to exit 109 or 105 on the GSP to bet a 20 timer on football. Throw in they will buy expensive food and drinks (one would guess) and or making a return trip to cash makes this venture very hard to be a success.
If Gural had done it there was a much better chance people could wager on their way hope losing minimal time. But these same people who don't have a bookmakers will smarten up quickly and get one probably from the first person they ask.

It's the stupidity of it that creates the animosity. The idea that a guy who wants to bet a game legally has to take a road trip when he could just easily and more comfortably do the same thing from his Lazy Boy makes me not want to support this.
